Snug between McDonald to the east and Niles to the northwest, Hilltop is a small Trumbull County territory with less than 700 residents. Densely wooded with low crime scores, Hilltop attracts McDonald residents with its location and real estate prices. “It has lower prices than McDonald, but has access to the McDonald school district,” says Tony Maffei, a Realtor with Century 21 Lakeside. “Plus, it’s a small town with low crime rates.”
Farmhouse-style contemporary homes
Worn, asphalt streets pass greenery-filled lots often as large as a quarter acre. Older midcentury Cape Cods, along with the occasional two-story, farmhouse-style home, fill the area. Prices generally fall between the high $30,000s and the mid-$60,000s for smaller houses, reflecting their need for restoration. Larger, better-kept homes can reach as high as the low $100,000s. “You’ll see a house with the roof caving in, and then you’ll see some amazing houses,” says Maffei. “There’s a lot of renovation going on out there.”
Two-story farmhouses are found throughout the Hilltop neighborhood.

Shopping at the Eastwood Mall
Hilltop and McDonald in general have little in the way of shopping or dining. “People mostly go to Niles for that,” says Maffei. “There’s the Eastwood Mall and a Walmart in that direction.” Across the Mahoning River in Girard, North State Street has an assortment of familiar and locally owned restaurants. El Jefe is a brightly colored restaurant known for an assortment of Mexican fusion dishes, including the Mexi-Can Burger—a smash burger topped with jalapenos, chipotle mayonnaise and a variety of cheeses.

Surrounded by highways

These busy thoroughfares provide easy access to Warren, 9 miles northwest, and Youngstown, 9 miles southeast.
