Boyd attracts buyers with parks, highway access and highly rated schools
The sprawling suburbs north of Dallas attract homebuyers with their large home sizes, highly rated schools, lower housing prices than in the city and ample access to highways and commercial and recreational amenities. Boyd is a residential community in McKinney, Texas, surrounding McKinney Boyd High School, which gets an A rating from Niche, where buyers can find homes close to grocery stores, a well maintained over 200-acre park and highways that offer them convenient access to the rest of the metroplex.

Large brick new traditional homes
Boyd has large brick single-family homes with new traditional architecture. Most homes were built in the ‘90s and 2000s, and the average size is nearly 3,000 square feet. “There’s higher demand in this neighborhood,” says Realtor Clair Cannon with Douglas Elliman Real Estate. She credits this demand to the age of the homes: “Generally speaking, the stuff that’s newer, people are going to look at and say, ‘I don’t want to have to do old house stuff. I don’t need to replace the water heater or the HVAC – it’s all new.’ Homes that are priced right for their condition are probably going to get multiple offers.” Boyd also stands out in that it’s not affected by some of the taxes that apply to some of the brand-new neighborhoods nearby. “Boyd does not have MUD or PID taxes, which the new construction neighborhoods tend to have,” Cannon says. Most recent sales in Boyd fall between $450,000 and $700,000.
Many homes in Boyd’s Preserve at Lake Forest feature neutral tones and painted brick.
Along Boyd’s streets, coordinating stone accents tie homes and yards together beautifully.

They start at either the A-minus-rated McClure Elementary or the A-rated Minshew Elementary before continuing to the A-rated Cockrill Middle School and the A-rated McKinney Boyd High School, which ranks on Niche in the top 200 public high schools in Texas. McKinney Boyd students can take dual credit courses with Collin College and participate in clubs such as Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) and National Honor Society.

Ample amenities at Bonnie Wenk Park
On the neighborhood’s east end, the over 200-acre Bonnie Wenk Park is an expansive green space with ample amenities. “My son played lacrosse when he was in high school, and we played at that park all the time,” Cannon says. “It’s a great park with plenty of ballfields, a dog park, a playground and walking trails. If somebody’s looking to be close to nature and be able to get to a walkable outdoor area, Boyd is an outstanding area to be in.” The park’s waterfront amphitheater sits beside its 5-acre fishing pond and hosts outdoor concerts in June. On the west end of Boyd, Horizon Park is a 6-acre green space with two picnic shelters, a playground, a splash pad and a hike and bike trail.

On the neighborhood’s north end, a Kroger Marketplace sits beside Anamia’s Tex-Mex, a local restaurant with several locations across DFW, and fast-food chains such as Chipotle, McDonald’s and Chicken Express. The neighborhood’s east end has a Walmart Neighborhood Market next to Hokkaido Ramen and Sushi Bar, a locally owned restaurant, and across the street from a Starbucks with a drive-through.

Taking Interstate 75 to Dallas
Boyd is a car-dependent neighborhood 3 miles west of U.S. Route 75, which residents can take to get to Dallas, 36 miles south. “Boyd is a little bit closer to [U.S. Route] 380, which might be a deciding factor for people,” Cannon says. “You don’t have to drive through so much city to get to the highway.” The closest Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) station to Boyd is Plano’s Parker Road Station, 15 miles south, where passengers can take the train to downtown Dallas. Though Boyd does not have buses in the neighborhood, qualifying residents can use DART Mobility Service for on-demand shared rides. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center is a mile north of Boyd, serving as both an employer and medical resource for the neighborhood. When traveling out of town, residents can fly out of Dallas Love Field, 33 miles south, or Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, 38 miles southwest.
