College Hill
Mid-century single-family homes
Common housing styles in College Hill include colorful ranch-style dwellings, Craftsman cottages and bungalows with gambrel roofs. “There’s a lot of midcentury and Tuscan-style architecture in this area,” Whitaker says. Most properties have paved driveways and garages, but residents can also park on the street. Roads are lined with well-maintained sidewalks and towering maple and oak trees shading freshly cut front lawns. The hilly topography of the area allows for unobstructed views of the surrounding Siskiyou and Cascade mountain ranges encompassing the Rogue Valley. Single-family homes typically cost between $300,000 and $525,000.North Medford High School has a state-of-the-art astronomy program
Students in kindergarten through fifth grade can attend Wilson Elementary School, which receives a C rating from Niche. The B-rated Hedrick Middle School and North Medford High School, which score a six out of ten rating from GreatSchools, are both within walking distance of College Hill. North Medford High School has a state-of-the-art astronomy program, with a newly renovated planetarium and observatory facilities. Ninth and tenth grade students can take AVID Elective courses to prepare themselves for the college application process.Outdoor recreation at Donahue-Frohnmayer Park
Donahue-Frohnmayer Park sits right next to College Hill and features a playground, a basketball court and half a mile of paved walking paths. This park is also home to the WinterSpring Memorial Grove, a place of remembrance with a wall made up of individual stones dedicated to loved ones. Approximately 1.5 miles outside the neighborhood is the Rogue Valley Country Club, a private outdoor recreation facility with a golf course, plus members-only fitness and wellness amenities. Farther east toward the mountains is Prescott Park, a rural recreational area full of pathways for hikers and cyclists. “There are a lot of really pretty, family-friendly hiking trails over there,” Whitaker says. “A lot of them are paved, and you get some beautiful views of the mountains.”Proximity to The Village at Medford Center
The Village at Medford Center shopping mall has chain eateries and department stores like T.J. Maxx, Burlington and Ross Dress for Less a mile west of the neighborhood. The shopping mall is also home to Tap & Vine @ 559, a tavern-style restaurant with an outdoor patio serving American dishes like burgers, steaks and sandwiches. Across the street is Cinemark Tinseltown Medford, a regional movie theatre chain with 15 screens and an arcade. Residents can get groceries at Safeway supermarket, which has a deli and bakery. “There are also some farms out in that area, including a vineyard called RoxyAnn Winery, which is one of the oldest wineries in Medford,” Whitaker says. “They have entertainment, events and a historic barn on the property that people do tastings in.”Cars used to navigate the hilly terrain
Because of its hilly terrain, residents in College Hill typically rely on personal vehicles to get around. “It’s more of a driving neighborhood, but it is an easy drive to downtown Medford,” Whitaker says. There are a couple of bus stops on Spring Street and McAndrews Road, which are part of the 27: Crosstown East route operated by the Rogue Valley Transportation District. The Rogue Valley International Medford Airport is a 3.5-mile drive north and offers domestic flights to cities in the western United States, as well as a handful of international flights to Canada and Mexico. A couple of blocks west of College Hill is the Providence Medford Medical Center, a 120-bed community hospital that offers emergency services and more than a dozen other healthcare specialties. Two miles southeast is the Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center, which features specialty services and a 24-hour emergency room.
