Fifteen athletic fields at Lithia and Driveway
Mont Crest is sandwiched between two golf courses, across the highway from an extensive athletic field complex. The state-of-the-art athletic facilities include the Lithia and Driveway ball fields complex, which has three full-stadium baseball fields, seven softball and baseball practice fields and five soccer and football fields, totaling 132 acres. With almost 1.5 million square feet of synthetic grass, it’s the largest municipal installation of FieldTurf in the country, maintained by the Medford Parks, Recreation and Facilities.Several Mont Crest homes back up to the Centennial Golf Club. The course’s 18-hole layout was designed by two-time PGA Tour winner and 1977 U.S. Amateur Champion John Fought, and developed, in part, by the nearby Rogue Valley Manor. The course is hailed as one of the top 50 golf courses in the country by Golf World magazine—solo or as part of a men’s or women’s club. For a change of scenery, they can traverse the retirement community to play on Quail Point Golf Course’s 75 acres.
Golf-inspired dishes at Centennial Grille
Golfers can debrief their latest round at Centennial Golf Club’s Centennial Grille, serving game-inspired dishes like the putt-putt burger, the caddy melt and hole-in-one nachos. House specialties include fettuccine alfredo and coconut-crusted shrimp, which can be enjoyed on the patio overlooking the greens. The grill hosts Monday Night Barbeque and offers prime rib decorated with au jus and horseradish cream on Friday evenings. For groceries and weekly essentials, residents shop at Albertsons, which is next door to Bambu. Serving pan-Asian cuisine, diners can enjoy artfully plated Japanese chicken katsu, bamboo pad Thai noodles or Shanghai baby back ribs on a patio teeming with plants. Across the interstate, Harry and David Country Village sells gourmet foods, popcorn, wine and truffles. Headquartered in Medford, it’s a major employer within the city.
Homes built on cul-de-sacs in the 1980s
Mira Mar Avenue and La Loma Drive are the main residential roads of Mont Crest, with several smaller streets and cul-de-sacs that branch off. “It’s an older neighborhood, with older homes built in the ‘80s and ‘90s,” Hackstedde says. Most homes feature ranch-style layouts with three bedrooms, fetching between $400,000 and $460,000. Larger, more modern properties can exceed that range while older properties—some in need of renovation—tend to have lower selling prices. Most streets feature well-maintained sidewalks and evergreen trees, and many homeowners enjoy private garages. Buyers looking in the south of the neighborhood should note its proximity to Interstate 5, which may be noisy.Mont Crest is situated immediately off of I-5
Interstate 5 is southwest of the subdivision, convenient for commuters heading out of town. Barnett Road, north of the neighborhood, takes drivers to Downtown Medford, which is about 3.5 miles away. The neighborhood's northern boundary—Juanipero Way—becomes Black Oak Drive and runs north past Rogue Valley Country Club, another popular regional golfing destination.Increased risk of wildfire
Because of the region's hot temperatures and the greenery that surrounds the neighborhood, Mont Crest is potentially at risk of wildfires and decreased air quality. To manage the risk, the city enforces weed abatement and other precautions.Dual credit at Phoenix High School
Local children can attend Orchard Hill Elementary School before potentially moving on to Talent Middle School, both earning a C grade from Niche. Phoenix High School, which earns a B-plus, helps students prepare for their futures with career and technical education programs in the culinary arts, business and marketing, welding, agricultural science and media arts. Students can also earn tuition-free dual credit with courses at Rogue Community College or Klamath Community College.
