While there are few employers in Meiners Oaks, prominent industries in Ventura County include agriculture, manufacturing and tourism.

For retail, there are clothing boutiques, thrift stores and art studios while, for groceries, there are a handful of nearby local markets along with a Vons on California state Route 33.

Lake Casitas is around 6 miles southwest of Meiners Oaks and is one of the more popular recreation spots in the nearby Ojai area. There are also golf courses, various community parks and plentiful hiking trails in Ojai. The Ventura River Preserve has a hiking trail on the west end of the community. For oceanside recreation, Ventura Beach is 16 miles south and is a popular surfing spot.
Once the sprawling Rancho El Nido ranch, Ventura River Preserve has remained relatively untouched and is a haven for over 300 animal and plant species.
