Located on Mercer Island's South End, Mercer Island Estates is a planned community that dates back to the 1960s and 70s. With flat, walkable streets and lots of cul-de-sacs, it’s also the largest neighborhood on this part of the island. Elegant homes, plentiful trails, highly rated schools and a small commercial plaza come together to form a robust lifestyle. "People really like it because it's comfortable, walkable and it tends to be on the more affordable side," says Charlie Sirianni, a Mercer Island resident and Managing Broker for Windermere Real Estate- Mercer Island. "It’s a little bit of a small town within a big city, and you have this bubble sort of feel, but you're also right between Seattle and Bellevue, so you still have that city access."

The neighborhood's own little commercial plaza has a slew of local restaurants and grocery stores. Riviera Maya includes a large selection of Mexican entrees and colossal margaritas. Toshi’s Teriyaki is so popular in the Seattle area that it’s often just known as “Seattle teriyaki.” Groceries can be bought at QFC, a local supermarket chain. From June to September, the Mercer Island Farmers Market provides organic produce, artisans and live music. Since Mercer Island Estates is located on the predominantly residential South End, even more dining options are available further up north.
Riviera Maya serves up fresh food and a fun atmosphere for Mercer Island locals.

Interstate 90 allows drivers to travel 10 miles to Seattle and 7 miles to Bellevue. King County Metro and Sound Transit both provide buses, many of which make stops along Island Crest Way. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is 21 miles away.
Siren noise and air quality risk
With a Mercer Island Fire Station in the middle of the neighborhood, siren noise may be heard periodically. First Street data suggests that the South End – this includes Mercer Island Estates – is at severe risk for poor air quality and moderate risks for both heat and wildfires.
