The island's northeast side includes the Mercerwood neighborhood
Mercerwood is in northeast Mercer Island, a small city in the middle of Lake Washington. The island connects to the mainland by way of Interstate 90 and its floating bridges. "It's 5 minutes to Seattle and 5 minutes to Bellevue, which are the two largest cities in Washington. But it's like a sanctuary because it's a little more rural," says Andrea Pirzio-Biroli, a managing broker with John L Scott Real Estate.
Winding neighborhood roads like Mercerwood Drive are fringed with evergreens and other trees, giving a secluded, woodsy feel. "Mercerwood is an older, well-established neighborhood. It's fairly quiet. Parts of it have views, parts of it don't," Pirzio-Biroli says. "That would be eastern views: You would see the Cascades, the Golf Club at Newcastle across the lake and the lake itself. Those are the main attractions. At some angles, you can see the city of Bellevue, and from some angles, Mount Rainier as well."
Homes in Mercerwood offer great views of nature and Lake Washington.
Mercerwood is halfway between Seattle and Bellevue, making it very convenient for your commute.

Midcentury ramblers, contemporaries and traditional homes
As one of the first developments built here after World War II, Mercerwood has a good supply of homes from the 1950s and the '60s. Many of these are ramblers, some with midcentury modern styling. Homes from later decades include contemporary and traditional homes, often with Craftsman or colonial influences. Prices are about $1.6 million to $3 million, though the newest and most spacious homes can go up to $5 million. "For a view home that's not on the water, you are generally looking at $3 million and above," Pirzio-Biroli says.

The interstate, buses, bridges and there's light rail on the way
Mercerwood lacks sidewalks and is mostly car-dependent. However, Pirzio-Biroli says many people enjoy cycling around the island via Mercer Way. Other transportation options include a Sound Transit bus route from Seattle to Bellevue. King County Metro DART runs between the south and north parts of the island and by shuttle to Downtown Seattle. Sound Transit's Link light rail extension to the island, the East Link project, was underway in 2025. The Mercer Island Station, once complete, would be in the center of I-90, near the Mercer Island Park-and-Ride.
