Downtown Mesa is a vibrant, trendy place to be
Filled with vibrant murals, plenty of shops, and locally owned eateries, Mesa’s Downtown area is always buzzing. This artistic neighborhood sits at the heart of the city, with dozens of events to occupy the weekend hours. Much of Downtown Mesa is an urban landscape with apartment units available for rent and pockets of single-family residences. Options abound in Downtown Mesa, where locals and visitors experience the artistic culture indoors and outdoors. “Once you live in Mesa, you don’t want to live anywhere else,” says Realtor Sergio Galindo of At Home Real Estate Arizona. Though the homes are more established, the neighborhood exudes a modern and creative vibe. As the community’s central thoroughfare, it’s no surprise that Main Street has attracted small business owners and home buyers with them. “All the redevelopment happening along Main Street is drawing people,” says Realtor Steve Castle of Castle Real Estate Group, with twenty-seven years of experience. Downtown Mesa is the central hub of activity, but the Valley Metro’s half-dozen bus stops along Main Street and Country Club Drive offer exploration beyond the neighborhood.

An artistic culture that stretches beyond a Museum
No institution better captures Mesa’s artistic bend than the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum, where works from nationally acclaimed artists reside. However, canvases in the gallery aren’t the only medium for artistic expression. “Well-known artists come to the Mesa Art Center,” says Galindo. “It’s beautiful, not that big, and easy to park. The place is small, and the people are nice.” The Center has a fully slated schedule of Broadway shows, concerts and theater performances. Additionally, plenty of the city’s annual events take place Downtown, including a July 4th celebration, among other holiday-themed events. A weekend staple for residents is the Downtown Mesa Farmer’s Market, which takes place every Saturday throughout the year. Whether looking for fresh produce from a local farmer, freshly pressed juice, sweet treats, or anything in between, folks find it here. Another option is the Second Friday Night Out, a lively monthly festival that features local artwork, live music and plenty of good eats.

Plentiful eateries and new development
Downtown is a hub for good eats, with plenty of options. “There’s a ton of stuff happening with Downtown shops and restaurants,” says Castle. Locals can share an appetizer with friends while hanging out in the outdoor space of 12 West Brewing, which offers a variety of craft beers and cocktails. The Nile is ideal for enjoying a pastry and coffee with a book or catching a live act. Kids can get a handcrafted scoop from Novel Ice Cream in the summertime. Just a short drive along Main Street brings locals to H Mart, the Asian grocery offering canned and packaged foodstuffs to stock up for the week.
