Established homes and apartment rentals in Mesa
The gridded streets of Downtown Mesa contain clusters of local businesses and single-family homes that appear and disappear block to block. While not chaotic, the layout is more complex than the average suburb. Homes in the Downtown area reflect a rich history, with many hailing from the 1920s and 1930s. Prospective buyers will find ranch-style homes with low, gabled roofs and plenty of shade over their front patio. Multi-story brick homes in the area have a classic curb appeal. Plenty of cozy bungalows sit on spacious lots, fetching between $300,000 and $470,000. The area’s two-bedroom townhouses often come with spacious and modern interiors and are usually within walking distance of many of Downtown’s amenities. These fetch between $290,000 and $330,000.Outdoor recreation at Pioneer Park
Getting outside for some fresh air is easy. Plenty of options are nearby, including the expansive 18-acre Pioneer Park. The open-air design allows for visibility between the slim palm trees. The playground alone stretches across 9,000 square feet, where children can run and explore. Aside from the playground and treehouse structures, they can jump around the splash pad, a small area dedicated to the 15-foot water wall. Lighted basketball courts make for a fun game of hoops, even in the early evening. Picnic tables are ideal for relaxing and having a bite to eat from one of the many food trucks that come by.Attending K-12 and beyond in Mesa
Nearby public schools are part of the Mesa Public Schools District, the largest in the state. Students start their education at Franklin Accelerated Academy, which boasts a rating of A-minus. When they reach Carson Junior High, students can explore performing arts staples like band, drama and orchestra. Nearby Westwood High School, home of the Warriors, earns a B-plus overall. Students can choose from extracurricular clubs and programs like their engaging robotics team. Local options for higher education are also available, with Mesa Community College and ASU’s satellite campus nearby. An artistic culture that stretches beyond a Museum
No institution better captures Mesa’s artistic bend than the Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum, where works from nationally acclaimed artists reside. However, canvases in the gallery aren’t the only medium for artistic expression. “Well-known artists come to the Mesa Art Center,” says Galindo. “It’s beautiful, not that big, and easy to park. The place is small, and the people are nice.” The Center has a fully slated schedule of Broadway shows, concerts and theater performances. Additionally, plenty of the city’s annual events take place Downtown, including a July 4th celebration, among other holiday-themed events. A weekend staple for residents is the Downtown Mesa Farmer’s Market, which takes place every Saturday throughout the year. Whether looking for fresh produce from a local farmer, freshly pressed juice, sweet treats, or anything in between, folks find it here. Another option is the Second Friday Night Out, a lively monthly festival that features local artwork, live music and plenty of good eats.Navigating the neighborhood
Residents are only a mile and a half away from Route 60. The Valley Metro light rail has access points on the west side, allowing locals to go as far as Phoenix. Owning a car is the most feasible way to make longer trips, but short hops are viable thanks to the half dozen Metro bus stops along Country Club Drive.Plentiful eateries and new development
Downtown is a hub for good eats, with plenty of options. “There’s a ton of stuff happening with Downtown shops and restaurants,” says Castle. Locals can share an appetizer with friends while hanging out in the outdoor space of 12 West Brewing, which offers a variety of craft beers and cocktails. The Nile is ideal for enjoying a pastry and coffee with a book or catching a live act. Kids can get a handcrafted scoop from Novel Ice Cream in the summertime. Just a short drive along Main Street brings locals to H Mart, the Asian grocery offering canned and packaged foodstuffs to stock up for the week.
