Leisure World is a gated, 55-plus community in Mesa known for its recreation-focused atmosphere. Two golf courses and several small lakes shape the neighborhood's landscape, and residents have access to everything from pickleball courts and swimming pools to a woodshop and a library. A full calendar of activities and community gatherings adds to the neighborhood's social feel. Living here also keeps you close to shopping centers, health care and freeways.
Housing includes a mix of single-family and multifamily options, giving buyers a variety of choices depending on their lifestyle and maintenance preferences. Single-family sales usually range from the low $200,000s to the low $800,000s, with properties on the golf courses or along the community’s artificial lakes typically commanding the highest prices. Condos and townhouses tend to sell from the mid-$200,000s to the mid-$300,000s.
Most homes in Leisure World were built between the 1970s and mid-1990s. Over time, many of them have been updated with modern finishes, energy-efficient features and remodeled interiors. In some cases, the original designs incorporated ideas that are still popular today. “We [have] two floor plans that were built in the late ’80s and early ’90s that were open concept before open concept was popular,” says Daniel Callahan, a Realtor with Re/Max Classic. “We were always kind of cutting edge because they built out houses with scissors truss supports after 1983 so that all the walls could come out.”
Recreation is woven into daily life here. The community has two 18-hole golf courses, including Coyote Run Golf Course, known for its views of the Superstition Mountains. In addition, residents have access to pickleball and tennis courts, heated pools, a fitness center and walking paths throughout the neighborhood. Leisure World also provides dedicated spaces for hobbies like woodworking, billiards and arts and crafts. With a diverse selection of clubs, classes and social groups, there are many ways to stay engaged and build friendships.
“There’s so much going on,” Callahan says. While the community stays active throughout the year, he says it tends to be especially busy from fall through early spring as seasonal residents return to the area. Events include:

Superstition Springs Center, a two-story indoor mall with a movie theater, is directly south of the community. Beyond the mall, additional shopping centers line nearby stretches of Power Road, giving you access to grocery stores, everyday services and a wide range of dining options. In addition to the many area businesses, Banner Baywood Medical Center located just north of Leisure World. For some residents, that means having just about everything they need within a few minutes of the community. When it's time to venture farther, Loop 202 and U.S. Route 60 are both a short drive away, making it easier to reach other parts of the valley.
Mesa Gateway Airport is less than 10 miles south and offers direct flights to dozens of cities across the country. It's about 25 miles to downtown Phoenix, with drive times typically ranging from 30 to 45 minutes. While most residents rely on a car, Valley Metro bus service and a community-run shuttle provide additional transportation options.
