Park Center Place
Modern condo conveniences and older renovated homes
With Fitch Park at the center of the neighborhood, the character of each side of the neighborhood differs. South of the park, small single-family ranch homes are the most prevalent, many of them built in the 1930s. Blending into the desert landscape, these refurbished houses generally go for up to $400,000. Spanish-style apartments and condominium developments such as Park Centre Casitas make up the housing on the north side of the neighborhood. For a condo, prices start in the mid-$200,000s.Plenty of shopping and dining in downtown Mesa
As a mainly residential neighborhood, Park Center Place doesn’t have much in the way of shopping or dining. In the northeast corner of the neighborhood, residents can buy groceries at Food City. Next door is Maya New York Pizza Bar & Grill, which hosts karaoke nights for locals. However, the neighborhood is just minutes from downtown Mesa. “Living here, you go to downtown Mesa for most things since you’re so close,” Van Cleve says. “I love Mangos Mexican Cafe, they’ve got great tacos.”Spring training action in Park Center Place
The keystone of Park Center Place is Fitch Park, a neighborhood green space that doubles as the spring training home of Major League Baseball’s Oakland Athletics. Locals can stop by to watch the early spring action at the Lew Wolff Training Complex on one of four full-size baseball fields, as well as one infield-only diamond. For their own sporting pleasure, residents can enjoy the other side of Fitch Park, which includes two basketball courts. Meanwhile, kids have two playgrounds to choose from.Year-round community events
While the Oakland A’s call Fitch Park their training home during the spring, they play their spring training games in the neighboring North Center neighborhood at Hohokam Park. But baseball isn’t the only attraction in town, with the city of Mesa hosting events year-round. Holiday celebrations dot the calendar, but the biggest event in downtown Mesa is the New Year’s celebration, with a street festival and fireworks.Park Center Place students
Park Center Place is located in the Mesa Unified School District, the largest school district in Arizona. Students can attend Edison Elementary School, given a B-minus grade by Niche, followed by Kino Junior High School, which earned a C, and Westwood High School, graded a B-plus. The neighborhood is also home to the Eisenhower Center for Innovation, a kindergarten through sixth-grade school that offers a high-tech learning experience, including an iPad for each student.Convenience to Mesa and across the Valley
Adjacent to Downtown Mesa, the Park Center Place neighborhood is close to the restaurants, museums, and other entertainment on Main Street. Residents can also access the greater East Valley area via the Valley Metro Rail system, which follows Main Street through Mesa. The stop at Mesa Drive is a 20-minute walk from the neighborhood. While Valley Metro is accessible, the majority of residents own cars and drive to their nearby destinations. Park Center Place is about a 30-minute drive from downtown Phoenix and Sky Harbor International Airport via the easily-accessible 202.
