Half a mile to schooling, including Poteet High School

Children can begin their education at Kimball Elementary School, which is located within walking distance of most of the neighborhood. R.S. Kimbrough Middle School is across North Galloway Avenue, a six-lane road. Both the elementary and middle school are graded a B-plus by Niche. Dr. Ralph H. Poteet High School opened in 1986 as the district’s fourth high school. It is graded an A-minus by Niche. It is about half a mile from Country Meadows, just across the road from the Town East Mall. Across I-30 is Dallas Christian School, a private Christian school for kindergarten through 12th grade. It is graded an A by Niche.

Parks attached to schools and a nearby recreation center

A weaving trail follows the stone wall separating the residential and commercial sections, about a mile long. Next to Kimball Elementary School is Kimball Park. The park is home to a tennis and basketball court as well as green space and a baseball diamond. Closer to the school is a playground. Nearby is Beasley Park, next door to Beasley Elementary School. Attached to the elementary school is Scott Dunford Recreation Center. The recreation center has open gym and play times as well as scheduled classes like Zumba.

Town East Mall and other shopping centers due south

In the northeastern corner is Slab’s BBQ and a hair studio. Country Meadows is just north of most of Mesquite’s shopping, with Town East Mall and Mesquite Town Center Plaza sitting less than a mile from most of the community. Market East Shopping Center is actually located within the neighborhood. Down the road from the center are smaller businesses, including Chi’s Wok, Town East Donut and HP Cleaners. An indoor mall, Town East Mall has over 180 stores and is anchored by Dillard’s and JCPenney. Nearby grocery stores include Walmart Neighborhood Market, Sprouts Farmers Market, Kroger and El Rio Grande Latin Market.

Trampoline park and Dunford Recreation Center camps for children

Along the western edge is Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park, open in the evenings during the week and throughout the day on the weekends. Mesquite has events throughout the year, including a Cinco de Mayo Celebration along downtown Mesquite. Dunford Recreation Center hosts spring and summer camps for children and teenagers.
The residents of Country Meadows enjoy going to the Mesquite Downtown Farmers Market to see all the different products they can try.
