The neighborhood is also close to several public parks, although none exist within Highland Hills itself.

The neighborhood is mostly made up of ranch-style homes. Built primarily in the 1960s and 70s, homes sit close together, under the cover of trees. Prices are lower than both the Dallas-Fort Worth Metro Area and the national average. “It’s a little bit of both old Mesquite and new people moving in,” Hudler says. Walking distance to Rutherford Elementary School
Students are served by the Mesquite Independent School District. They can begin at Sam Rutherford Elementary School, which is graded a B by Niche. It is within walking distance of Highland Hills. Students can then attend Frank B. Agnew Middle School, which receives a grade of B-minus. Mesquite High School opened in 1901 and has a grade of B from Niche. “There are a lot of programs for kids,” Hudler says. The school has a partnership with local radio station KEOM where students can participate and learn how to run a radio station.

Along East Davis Street are more local restaurants, including Oh My Curry and Yia Yia’s House of Gyros Mesquite.
