Solterra offers award-winning residences and amenities in Mesquite

Solterra is a new master-planned community that’s about half an hour from Downtown Dallas. Spanning over 1,400 acres along South Mesquite Creek, Solterra has built over 600 homes so far and is looking to add another 3,000 over the next few years. With a variety of luxurious on-site amenities and spacious homes with smart technology, it’s clear why Solterra was named Master-Planned Community of the Year by the Dallas Builders Association in 2025.

Parks and playgrounds within walking distance in Solterra

The 8-acre amenity center is located near the community entrance by Solterra Boulevard and features three resort-style pools, a splash pad, a white sand beach and a pickleball complex. It’s also next to a 25-acre lake where residents go fishing, kayaking and paddleboarding. The Lookout Treehouse Park offers scenic views of the neighborhood and was expertly designed by the “Treehouse Masters” of Animal Planet fame. There are many more smaller parks and playgrounds around the area, including Promenade Park and the Lone Wolf Dog Park. “They’re all connected through trails,” Huffines Communities marketing manager Kellie Outland says. “One can ride their bike or walk over from one area to the other.”

Traditional homes and luxury townhomes around Solterra

Solterra is currently split into two subdivisions separated by Faithon P. Lucas Senior Boulevard, with new construction taking place along Cartwright Road. There are 13 home builders working on this community, including Lennar, which is building one- to two-story floor plans with energy-efficient amenities on the south side of the neighborhood. Many single-family homes on the north side sit on small lots and feature traditional, Craftsman or Tudor-style architecture. A few luxury townhomes can also be found across the street from the amenity center. “It’s a lock-and-leave type of situation,” Outland says. “It’s great for nurses, people who are downsizing or who want that low-maintenance lifestyle.”

Housing prices in Solterra

Lennar homes range from the mid-$200,000s to the upper $300,000s, while townhomes cost between the lower and upper $300,000s. Larger single-family homes can cost anywhere from the lower $400,000s to the lower $700,000s.

STAR Transit and Dallas Area Rapid Transit

East Cartwright Road runs along the north side of the community and connects to Interstate 635, which partially loops around the city of Dallas. STAR Transit buses provide public transportation throughout Kaufman County, while Dallas Area Rapid Transit buses and rail lines can take passengers anywhere in the city, including the Dallas Love Field Airport. ER of Mesquite is a little over a mile away and is open 24 hours a day.

Fresh updates for Mesquite ISD

Students in the community are zoned for the highly rated Mesquite Independent School District, with Gentry Elementary located within the neighborhood. “Gentry Elementary is actually expanding,” Outland says. “They have been there before we even had homes in the community.” Berry Middle is directly north and offers a free breakfast and lunch program. Locals love to support their high school sports teams at John Horn High School, which is set to receive new locker rooms and training facilities in the near future. In 2025, voters approved a $600 million bond package that includes new technology and infrastructure updates.

Local shopping centers and a new Walmart

A new Walmart Neighborhood Market is being built on the east side of the community with an estimated opening of summer 2026. The Horn Shopping Center is also close by and has a few dining establishments such as Little Caesars, Easttowntaco and Donut King Palace. There are more restaurants and businesses by Pioneer Road, including grocery stores such as Tom Thumb, Walgreens and CVS.

Seasonal celebrations and monthly events around Solterra

Solterra hosts a wide variety of seasonal events. A few of them include:

  • The annual Spring Bash, which takes place during the community’s Easter egg hunt
  • The Summer Splash Pool Party, held annually on Memorial Day
  • The Boo Bash, a spooky Halloween event where kids go trick-or-treating
  • The annual Christmas tree lighting and holiday market, which kicks off in early December
A few smaller events also pop up around the community every month. There are both spring and fall fishing tournaments by the lake, as well as a few 5K marathons, cooking classes and cultural celebrations. Children also meet up at the Saturday Morning Kids Club, where they can participate in arts and crafts and story time or play by the bubble truck that occasionally rolls into town.
