The North End brings a suburban, accessible feel to Methuen
The North End of Methuen offers a quieter, more suburban atmosphere compared to other parts of the town, making it an appealing choice for those seeking space and convenience. Homes are predominantly single-family properties with generous yards, contributing to the neighborhood’s spacious and residential character. While The North End is more laid back, Methuen’s city amenities in the historical downtown area aren’t far away. “Industrial growth in the 1800s influenced the area, which can still be seen in the architecture throughout town today,” says Christine O’Connor, librarian at the Nevins Library. Located about 30 miles north of Boston and 20 miles east of Nashua, The North End borders New Hampshire to the west and sits adjacent to Salem, a hub for shopping and dining. Additionally, its position between Interstates 93 and 495 provides residents with manageable commutes.
Many single-family homes list around $500,000 with roomy yards.

Colonial styles and townhomes range widely in price
Mature trees and landscaped yards give The North End a livable feel, though very few developments currently have sidewalks. However, Methuen’s Complete Streets Program aims to rebuild sidewalks and upgrade pedestrian ramps throughout the community. About 75% of residents own their homes, and single-family houses make up much of the landscape. Colonial-style homes are the most common, though Cape Cods and split-level designs are also prevalent. Most properties include attached garages and sit on lots ranging from a quarter-acre to more than five acres. Prices for single-family homes typically range from around $500,000 to just over $1 million, with the median sale price hovering near $712,000.
For those seeking lower-maintenance living, townhomes and condos built between the 1980s and late 2010s provide an alternative. Prices start around $375,000 for a modest 1,000-square-foot unit and can exceed $1 million for a 4,000-square-foot residence in the upscale 55+ community of Emerald Pines.
