Peaceful suburban living in Methuen

Sitting by the New Hampshire and Massachusetts border, the West End is a Methuen community by the Merrimack River and Interstate 93. The quiet neighborhood is mainly residential, comprised of idyllic New England homes, peaceful lakes and a waterfront golf course. Residents are a short drive away from the myriad restaurants and markets in downtown, and retail centers such as The Loop and The Mall at Rockingham Park are also close by. Realtor Victor Cabral with Coco, Early & Associates points out that New Hampshire has no sales tax, so with Western Methuen sitting right on the state border, many hop across the state line for shopping. The CAP Index score is 1 out of 10, which is significantly lower than the national average of 4.

New England homes in the West End

Sitting alongside winding country roads covered by leafy oak and maple trees, most residential properties here were built throughout the 20th century, with newer builds from the 2000s peppered throughout the community. Neighborhood homes range from Cape Cods and eclectic ranch styles to Colonial Revivals, split levels, Garrison-styles and New Traditionals. Single-family houses usually list between $400,000 and $900,000, with new developments and those with water views at the higher end of the price range. There are a few condos and townhouses in the area, selling in the $300,000s and the $600,000s, respectively. There is usually a comfortable distance between the homes, and yards vary from a quarter-acre to over 2 acres with landscaped lawns and short driveways. Some streets have sidewalks, but the neighborhood is car-dependent.
