A South Beach hotspot for retail, entertainment and dining
Located between Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, City Center blends entertainment, culture and retail. The neighborhood’s name is fitting, as it sits at the center of Miami’s South Beach — “within walking distance of shopping, dining, the beach and night clubs,” says Realtor Amy Aronson, P.A. with Beachfront Realty. “This is a young area.” With so many attractions in such a tight radius, City Center is a haven for young professionals, many of whom “work from home,” Aronson says. South Beach hospitality employees also relocate to the area for beach and nightlife close to work.
Home prices run the gamut in City Center
The neighborhood often attracts “young, transplanted professionals who are looking for amenities, parking and a price point they can afford,” Aronson says. Condominiums and attached units dominate the housing options in City Center. Single-bedroom apartments can range between $250,000 to over $600,000, depending on the size and amenities. Penthouse lofts with private rooftop terraces can sell from $1 million to over $2 million. Some single-family units and townhouses are also sprinkled throughout the neighborhood, with prices reaching from $525,000 to almost $950,000, although some new constructions may list for more than $3.5 million.
Attending IB programs at Miami Beach Fienberg-Fisher
The schools serving City Center include Miami Beach Fienberg-Fisher K-8, which offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme. The school earns a C-plus from Niche. Nautilus Middle, which receives a B-plus, is also an IB school that offers a culinary arts program and music academy. At Miami Beach Senior High, another B-plus school, students can choose from several academies, including creative arts, hospitality and tourism, and marine and environmental science.
Community green spaces in Center City
There are five green spaces throughout the community. Collins Park, neighboring the Bass Museum, includes outdoor art displays. Soundscape Park is more of an event-centered space. The 2.5-acre spot sits next to the New World Center — home to a music academy and symphony — and serves as a gathering place for fun events, such as movies in the park and morning yoga. Melodies from the center’s New World Symphony waft through the park, and music lovers can check out the concerts on a screen display.
Shopping and restaurants along Lincoln Road
The pedestrian-only Lincoln Road Mall features some of Miami’s top restaurants. In fact, some chefs are recognized locally or internationally, with some earning Michelin ratings, such as MILA. The mall also features outdoor entertainment and a movie theater. The walkable district has a farmers market on Sundays. Bordering the community are grocery options such as Trader Joe's and Publix Super Market.
Attending events at the Miami Beach Convention Center or The Fillmore Miami Beach
The historic Miami Beach City Hall building rests in the heart of the neighborhood, bustling with local government activity. Miami Beach Convention Center hosts trade shows, business meetings and events. Art Basal and the Miami International Boat Show are among the most well-visited events. The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater is a hotspot for live concerts and comedy shows. Other attractions include the exotic Miami Beach Botanical Garden, eclectic art galleries and the outdoor Holocaust Memorial.
Traveling by bus, car of ferry in City Center
Parking can be challenging in City Center and locals can expect traffic during rush hours. Bus stops are along Alton Road, Collins Avenue and 17th Street. Mount Sinai Medical Center and Interstate 195 await less than 3 miles north. Commuters also take the Miami Beach Ferry or the South Beach Ferry to get across the bay to downtown.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
