Three distinct sections offer varied selections in Southeast Gables
Five miles southwest of Miami, Southeast Gables is a residential area on the outskirts of Coral Gables. The area can roughly be divided into three distinct sections: luxury condominium buildings near The Shops at Merrick Park, single-family homes north of the shopping mall, and duplexes mixed with single-family homes near Douglas Park. There are additional condominiums on the north side of the area, close to Coral Gables Hospital. Each section has its own vibe, so you should be able to find a home that suits your needs within your budget. In Southeast Gables, you have a selection of housing options close to stores and restaurants, a short drive from the coast.
Housing options range from condos to Mediterranean-style homes
Pricing for luxury condos like the units at Merrick Manor Condominiums vary based on floor and unit size. They can range from $550,000 for a unit with 700 square feet of living space, to $3.1 million for a unit with 2,100 square feet of living space. You’re in walking distance to entertainment, shopping and dining options at The Shops at Merrick Park. The established, single-family homes north of the mall are arranged close together, side-by-side, along sidewalk-lined streets shaded by tall, mature trees. Styles include Spanish Revivals and Spanish Mission-style homes with stucco roofs, shotgun-style houses and sprawling ranch-style houses. As of October 2023, closing sale prices range from $795,000 for a ranch-style house with 900 square feet of living space in need of some work, to $2.1 million for a New Traditional Mediterranean-style house with 2,100 square feet of living space. Homes near and east of Douglas Park are a mix of established duplexes and single-family homes. Recent listings are priced between $875,000 for a recently renovated ranch-style house with 1,900 square feet of living space, and $2 million for a fully renovated villa with 3,000 square feet of living space. There aren’t as many trees lining the streets in this section, but there are still sidewalks to get around on foot.
Coral Gables High earns top marks and is walkable from some homes
Students can attend Tucker Elementary School and Ponce De Leon Middle School, both graded B-minus on Niche, and go on to Coral Gables High School. Coral Gables High, graded A-minus on Niche, offers magnet programs like the Academy of Finance, and the International Baccalaureate Program. Depending on where you live, each school is a 10-minute drive away, or less. Those who live in Merrick Manor Condominiums are in walking distance of the high school.
Coastal parks and beaches are a short drive from the area
Spend time outdoors at Douglas Park. Kids can enjoy a variety of climbing equipment on the cushioned, covered playground, including a climbing dome and a rock-climbing wall. The playground is enclosed, so kids can freely dart between different sets of playground equipment. Older kids might enjoy playing basketball with friends on the outdoor courts, or soccer in the fields. You can get your steps in on the walking trail, or work out on the outdoor fitness equipment in the covered Fitness Zone. You’re a roughly 10-minute drive from Dinner Key Marina, and several coastal parks, so you aren’t far from ocean access. And if you want to spend the day on the beach, Hobie Island Beach Park north, the first of many beaches on the Rickenbacker Causeway, is roughly 15 minutes away.
Retail and entertainment options are close to home
When it’s time to go grocery shopping, the Publix Super Market on South Le Jeune Road is less than 10 minutes away by car. The same is true for Trader Joe’s on Ponce de Leon, and Aldi on Douglas Road. Except for Trader Joe’s, these stores are a short walk from nearby bus stops. Retail shopping options at The Shops at Merrick Park include Nordstrom, J. Crew and more. Catch the latest blockbuster at The Landmark movie theater, or dine at one of several nearby restaurants. Experience upscale dining at restaurants like Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille or Sea Grill, or enjoy casual dining at restaurants like Villagio.
Transit access includes buses and nearby rail service
Public transportation is available on major roads like Southwest 40th Street, Ponce de Leon and Southwest 37th Street. Depending on where you live, you can also hop on the train from the Douglas Road Metrorail Station on the south side of the area.
