Tucked against a golf course and The Loop
Aptly named Fairway Park is sandwiched between a golf course, the Midland Airpark and state Route 250, a major highway known to locals as The Loop. While this proximity to the highway puts the neighborhood just a few turns away from commercial and retail destinations such as Midland Park Mall, it also strands this residential island amid a sea of commercial centers, municipal services and parks. “It’s tucked away, but not necessarily in a good way,” says Chris Beckett, broker-owner of Pine & Beckett Realtors, whose office is beside the neighborhood in the Mission Square shopping center. “It’s a somewhat unusual neighborhood in that it started in the early 1980s, and then we had an oil bust. So it was deserted, and then it was built back up.” By the time construction resumed in the late 1980s and early 1990s, ClayDesta Plaza office park was nearly complete, putting a large buffer between the community and other residential neighborhoods. Although the highway may bring a fair amount of noise to the closest homes, the airpark isn’t nearly as intrusive, and neighboring Hogan Park helps dampen the sound.

Golf, softball and more at Hogan Park
Hogan Park is one of the city’s largest, covering more than 600 acres. The park is a destination for local sports and everyday outdoor recreation, with everything from natural trails surrounding the Sibley Nature Center to a state-of-the-art softball complex and a public 18-hole golf course. “It’s a good golf course. I don’t think it gets enough accolades because it's municipal,” Beckett says. The park is also home to the Hispanic Cultural Center of Midland, a contemporary playscape with rope climbing structures and a spacious dog park. Midland Independent School District sports teams use the Audrey Gill Sports Complex just north of the neighborhood.

Ranch-style homes below Midland’s average
Fairway Park’s curving streets are lined with traditional brick ranch-style properties, although they vary greatly in design and brick wash. Lighted sidewalks connect to wide driveways and two-car garages. Most homes are also accessible by a rear alley. While many of these homes were built in the late 1980s and early 1990s, a handful of newer, more contemporary designs are in the mix, and the rare two-story property towers over its neighbors. Most three- and four-bedroom homes cost between $215,000 and $350,000. Occasionally, larger and newer properties will hit the market for closer to $500,000.

College and career readiness at Midland High
Emerson Elementary receives a B-plus from Niche and serves kindergarten through sixth grade students. San Jacinto Junior High is graded C-plus and offers career exploration courses for seventh and eighth grade students. C-plus-rated Midland High is currently split between two campuses, one for ninth grade students and another for tenth through 12th grade students. Following a referendum passed in early 2024, the city announced its plans to build a new Midland High School campus to house all four grades in the coming years. The district is known for robust programs like its Fire Academy, where teens can earn a firefighter certification. Early College High School at Midland College, rated A, allows students to graduate with an associate degree. Private options in the area include A-plus-rated Trinity School of Midland and A-minus-rated Midland Christian School.
Local dining at Mission Square
The Mission Square shopping center supports a local dance studio, real estate offices, nail salons and an animal clinic. It’s also home to popular restaurants such as Crave Café, an authentic Venezuelan restaurant, and sushi favorite Hayashi Japanese Steakhouse, which elevates the dining experience with tableside grilling service. Sports games are always on screen at The Tailgate, a rustic venue for weekend gatherings, live music and private events. At Ally Village, a boutique shopping plaza less than a mile away, Cork & Pig Tavern serves classic gastropub fare, wood-fired pizzas and an eclectic selection of wines. Upscale steakhouse Cowboy Prime attracts diners from across the city while locals enjoy the fresh options at the Pure Green juice bar. In addition to a nearby Super Mercado grocery store, there’s a Natural Grocers located just off The Loop beside Midland Park Mall, which JCPenney anchors. Surrounding this traditional indoor mall are a handful of shopping centers with big names like Best Buy, HomeGoods, Target and Walmart Supercenter.

Concerts at the Chaparral Center; festivals at Centennial Park
Midland College often hosts events at its Chaparral Center, including concerts, book signings and holiday festivities such as evenings with Santa Claus. Downtown Midland’s Centennial Park hosts citywide events in summer, such as the Fiesta in the Park music festival, a downtown farmers market and the Star-Spangled Salute, a Fourth of July celebration with a parade and fireworks display.
Take The Loop to I-20
The Loop circles the city, connecting drivers with Interstate 20 to the south. It’s about 15 miles from the neighborhood to Midland International Air & Space Port and 25 miles to Odessa. Downtown Midland is just under 4 miles away but is best reached by car, as the closest EZ-Rider bus stop is a mile away.
