Parklea Addition is a small, centrally located neighborhood in Midland that offers a lower cost of housing than surrounding areas. The neighborhood's lots and home sizes are on the smaller side for Midland, with an average house being less than 1,500 square feet. It's also one of the city's oldest neighborhoods, with a median build year of 1951. Some homes need fixing up, while others have been completely renovated. "They're definitely starter homes, definitely under $250,000. Small three-bedroom, two-bath homes," says Henry Munoz, a Realtor at Fathom Realty who has sold multiple homes in the neighborhood. "That west side of town is going to be on the more affordable side." Houses typically range from the mid-$80,000s to the upper $200,000s.
Living in Parklea Addition puts you near lots of shopping and dining. "You're right next to Andrews Highway, which is a big street with restaurants," Munoz says. "You're just surrounded by retail. Donut shops, Domino's pizza, places to cut your hair." Close to home, you can:
The Midland Independent School District serves the neighborhood. Students might attend Midland High School, which has an Air Force JROTC program and several career and technical education pathways. The district also offers magnet schools and schools of choice. Students can apply to these options, and lotteries are used when space is limited.
Parklea Addition's central location makes it easy to commute to work. Downtown is home to many of the city's major employers, including several oil companies. It's about a 2-mile drive from the neighborhood, which typically takes less than 10 minutes. If you work in the oil fields, your drive will be a bit longer, but many operations are located within about 15 miles. Midland Memorial Hospital is another major employer and the closest health care facility, just northeast of the neighborhood.
