West Midland neighborhood close to Loop 250
Wydewood is a suburban neighborhood on Midland’s established west side that’s home to a diverse mix of renters and owners and offers its residents something that can be challenging to come by in parts of the east side: highway access. "It's really convenient because it's right by Loop 250,” says Eva Salcido, a Realtor associate with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Cooper Realty and Midland resident. Terra Avery, a longtime Midland resident and co-host of the “Best in Midland Texas Podcast," echoes the sentiment that being close to the highway is a huge perk of living in the neighborhood. "You basically take Loop 250 to get anywhere in the city," she says. And while Midland is relatively easy to navigate, those looking for instant highway access will find it in Wydewood.

Brick ranch-style homes are common
While a substantial portion of the neighborhood comprises apartments—about 44%—Wydewood has single-family homes, too. Most are ranch-style, with three or four bedrooms priced in the low to mid $300,000s. They often feature brick exteriors and low-pitched roofs. Short driveways lead to two-car garages, and front doors are usually recessed to help keep houses cool. Lots are compact, offering just enough space for small front and backyards. While some residents opt for grass, others landscape their front lawns with gravel and drought-resistant plants, which endure in the Texas heat. Sidewalks are abundant, and the streets are wide and quiet, offering space for evening walks or bike rides. Those looking for something with a bit less upkeep can find townhouses, most with three bedrooms and priced in the $200,000s.
