Millcreek: A recreational mountainside city

Millcreek is a city in the Salt Lake Valley next to the Wasatch Mountains, 8 miles from downtown Salt Lake City. It is located at an elevation of about 4,200 feet and has a population of 62,000. “Millcreek is one of the most popular places to live in Utah,” says Steve Gilbert, a Realtor with eXp Realty, who has sold homes for nearly two decades in the area. “It has everything you need to relax and enjoy the outdoors.” Millcreek is also about 30 miles from the ski slopes of Park City. When people aren’t venturing out to ski, they can stay local and quickly reach the downtown and popular neighboring areas like Sugar House and Yalecrest. “It’s a very nice, high-yield area. Compared to other cities, it has more mature trees that line the streets,” says Rodney Moser, Broker/Owner at NextHome Navigator, who has nearly three decades of experience.

While Utah is growing as a whole, Millcreek’s population has remained flat over the past decade and a half, according to the United States Census Bureau. The city’s top industries include health care and education. The cost of living in Millcreek is 2% higher than the national average, according to the Economic Research Institute. The median household income is $98,500. “It does cost a lot to get into Millcreek, because of their good schools, parks and homes,” Moser says. “People pay to say they live in Millcreek.”

Popular home styles include 1950s bungalows and late 20th-century ranch-style homes. Large, two-story mountainside estates sit within neighborhoods like Mt. Olympus and Canyon Rim. Driveways are hilly and lead to small sidewalks; some homes have thin, paved walkways stretching directly from front porches to the street.
