Rural North East hosts spacious homes and has shopping in Millerton
The Town of North East consists of New York farmlands and rural abodes, with the village of Millerton serving as the commercial center. Established in 1788, the town has long been known as a rail-accessible farming hub and later held iron mines and foundries through the Industrial Revolution. Today, the town is known for its bountiful land market and agrarian atmosphere. Residents are situated in the northeast corner of Dutchess County, abutting the Connecticut and Massachusetts state lines.
In the North East neighborhood large plots of land are a common site with many using it for farming.

Options to hike, fish and play sports around town
Folks can access the Harlem Valley Rail Trail from downtown Millerton. This paved multi-use path stretches over 26 miles across Dutchess and Columbia counties, and has been continuously developed since the 1990s, with more trail extensions underway. There’s also Eddie Collins Memorial Park; the village of Millerton renovated the park’s basketball courts, playground, soccer field, and Little League baseball diamond in 2022. New additions to the park are coming soon, including a five-lane short-course Olympic pool and a pool house, both expected to be completed in time for Millerton’s 175th anniversary in 2026. Just north of Millerton is Taconic State Park - Rudd Pond Area, a protected forested green space, where locals can kayak, fish for bass or hunt for deer, turkeys and rabbits in appropriate seasons. The NorthEast-Millerton Library is on Main Street and has served the wider North East area since 1867.

Farm stands and boutiques in Millerton, and the Harney & Sons headquarters
Locals have a variety of local farm stands to shop for groceries. Silamar Farm is located along New York state Route 22 and offers fresh seasonal produce, herbs and homemade ice cream. North East Community Center hosts the Millerton Farmers Market, a year-round event for neighbors to browse pasture-raised meats, produce, cheeses and baked goods. “Millerton was a train depot developed in the 1900s, which means that by design, it has a main street with lots of shops and Victorian-era buildings,” says Rebillard. “Now we have a very popular movie theater, a well-thought-out library that’s doing social events, several restaurants and antique shops.” In Millerton, people can also dine at local establishments like Oakhurst Diner, which serves an all-day menu in a retro, ‘50s-inspired dining car building.
