City access with a suburban address
Named for a private Catholic women’s college, Alverno is a neighborhood tucked away in the southwest suburbs of Milwaukee with some very specific advantages. Alverno College’s small yet scenic campus is a nice place to stroll or cheer on their athletic teams, but that’s not why people move to Alverno. “Cherokee Point is a subdivision in the neighborhood with starter to high-end homes,” says Realtor Jaime Bouvette with Re/Max Service First. “It’s convenient to downtown, American Family Field, where the Milwaukee Brewers play, and the freeway.” Alverno residents enjoy all the city offers from the comfort of their suburban address.

New, midcentury and historic
Cherokee Way is one of the main roads that run north and south through the neighborhood. Around it are homes of the Cherokee Point subdivision, which include large colonials for $500,000 constructed in the early 2000s to modest bungalows listing at $270,000 built in the 1920s. Cherokee Point also features “ranch condos” on one level, which boast vaulted ceilings, for $250,000. For older homes with good bones, the area north of the college’s campus features midcentury homes in the $200,000 range. Realtor Beth Jaworski of Shorewest Realtors says many of the historic Tudors and colonials in the neighborhood are made with highly desired stone from the Lannon Stone quarry in Waukesha County. Another attractive fact about Alverno is that it received a 4 out of 10 on crime from the CAP Index, which matches the national average.
