Cape Cod and ranch-style homes are also typical of the area. Housing prices range from the mid-$200,000s to the mid-$400,000s. The median sale price for a single-family home in Alverno is in the lower $300,000s, making it generally less expensive than nearby Greenfield, but more expensive than neighborhoods like Jackson Park, Honey Creek Manor, Southpoint and Southgate.

Milwaukee Public Schools serves the Alverno neighborhood, and the district allows students to select from schools across the system. Reagan High School is an International Baccalaureate World School with an A-plus rating from Niche. The Golda Meir School, rated A-minus by Niche, is a magnet school for gifted and talented students in grades three through 12. The school offers an accelerated curriculum with Advanced Placement courses and dual enrollment for college credit.

Alverno has big retail centers and local dining options
The neighborhood is near a Meijer supercenter that has a full grocery store, clothing, electronics and home goods. You can also go to Southridge Mall, an indoor shopping destination in Greendale with dozens of stores and restaurants.

West Forest Home Avenue provides a direct route through the area, while Interstates 41 and 43 connect to downtown Milwaukee, less than 10 miles away. The Milwaukee County Transit System runs bus service through the neighborhood with stops on Morgan Avenue. Cyclists can use Milwaukee's trail network, including the nearby Oak Leaf Trail.
Easy access to parks, lagoon paths and a short golf course
Several large parks are a short distance from Alverno. Jackson Park spreads over 100 acres and has a paved path circling a central lagoon. The park also includes tennis courts, a football field, a playground and trail connections to the broader Oak Leaf Trail system. Zablocki Park Golf Course, a 9-hole, par-3 layout, is one of the shortest in the Milwaukee County Parks system and operates on a first-come, first-served basis.
