Why residents value the location and accessibility of Southpoint

Located on Milwaukee's South Side, Southpoint combines a neighborhood feel with everyday convenience. The area is known for its collection of postwar Cape Cods and ranch-style homes, with shopping, dining and other daily errands in the area's west side. Reliable transit, easy access to major roads and well-equipped parks add to the neighborhood’s appeal as a convenient place to live close to the city.

Classic, postwar styles with modern updates

Midcentury Cape Cods and ranch-style homes make up most of the housing in Southpoint, with many still showcasing postwar details like hardwood floors, arched doorways and original woodwork. Over the years, plenty of homes have been updated with modern kitchens and finished basements which often provide extra living space. The median sale price is in the mid-$200,000s, with prices generally ranging from the mid-$100,000s to the lower $300,000s. That puts Southpoint in a similar price range as Southgate and Morgandale. On the other hand, it tends to be less expensive than Wilson Park and Greenfield.

Southpoint residents don't have to go far for a meal. South 27th Street and the surrounding area offer everything from longtime local favorites to casual spots for a quick bite:

  • Zebb's Family Restaurant, a diner known for breakfast omelets, slow-cooked ribs and homemade soups
  • The King Crab Shack, a casual seafood boil spot with customizable sauces and spice levels
  • Ned's Pizza, a Milwaukee fixture for thin-crust pies since 1969
  • Leon's Frozen Custard, a retro drive-in serving custard, shakes and sundaes
The area's retail is clustered along South 27th Street and the neighborhood's west side, with shopping centers, grocery stores and national chains. "South 27th Street is kind of the coolest street in the city, I always say," says Jeff Majdoch, the owner of Big Putts Mini Golf. You can browse these spots:
  • Point Loomis Shopping Center, a busy hub anchored by Kohl's and Pick 'n Save, along with a variety of discount stores
  • Plaza 27, a shopping center with a mix of retail and services

Outdoor amenities from ponds and paths to ice skating

Spanning over 70 acres, Wilson Park includes playgrounds, baseball diamonds and walking paths circling a pond. The adjacent Wilson Recreation Center adds a public pool and an indoor NHL-sized ice rink. “Wilson Park is tucked back into the neighborhoods, but it has established amenities like public restrooms,” says Drew Zirzow, a local manager with Milwaukee County Parks, who adds, “The swimming pool is popular in the summer, there's a great sledding hill in the winter, and the ice rink is home to a cooperative hockey team from 24 different public schools — those games get a good turnout.” For golfers, Zablocki Park offers a nine-hole, par-3 course established in 1968 with synthetic tee boxes and greens.
