Concordia is a neighborhood rooted in history and classic homes
Concordia is known as Milwaukee's "Bed and Breakfast District" thanks to its collection of restored 19th-century homes, many of which have been converted into hospitality businesses. This small West End neighborhood has a story dating back to the 1850s and is recognized as a National Historic District. It takes its name from Concordia College, a university that operated in the area for much of the 20th century. Today, about 2,000 Milwaukee residents live here, and many newcomers are working to bring the neighborhood's historic homes back to their former glory.

Restored Queen Annes and bungalows make up much of the market
Queen Anne houses line Concordia's wooded, sidewalk-lined streets. These often feature large front porches, dormer windows and colorful exteriors, while more traditional Victorian homes showcase detailed decorative facades. You'll also find smaller but equally colorful bungalows throughout the neighborhood. "It's a mature area with houses and neighbors that have been there for some time," says Mary Edwards, a Realtor at Realty Executives Integrity. "The houses have a lot of character and details that can't be found in modern homes.” Prices tend to range from the mid-$100,000s to the low $300,000s, depending on the level of restoration required. The median price falls around the mid-$200,000s, generally making Concordia more expensive than surrounding neighborhoods like Cold Spring Park, Merrill Park and Avenues West.
Students can apply to schools across the city
Milwaukee Public Schools is a school-choice district, meaning students can apply to institutions across the city rather than being assigned to one. Golda Meir School has an A-minus rating from Niche and offers a gifted and talented program for students in 3rd through 12th grade. The Woodlands School is a charter school near the center of the neighborhood.

Walkable streets and transit make commuting easier
Concordia is a walkable, bike-friendly neighborhood, so many residents can get around without a car. For those who do drive, street parking is widely available and many homes have detached garages or driveways behind them that are accessed through alleyways. Several major roads run through or along the edges of the neighborhood, making downtown commutes straightforward, and those same corridors are lined with bus stops that connect residents to other parts of Milwaukee.

Some of Milwaukee's best-known parks are just minutes from Concordia, including Washington Park. Locals can relax on its wide open lawns, read by the lagoon or catch a concert at the historic bandstand. The park also features tennis courts, basketball courts, a playground and a splash pad. Plant lovers often head to the nearby Mitchell Park Domes, which showcase tropical and desert plants along with a rotating lineup of floral displays throughout the year.
