Dineen Park, a community centered around a large Milwaukee County park

Blocks of classic ranch-style homes surround a rolling, tree-shaded green space in Dineen Park. Many houses and park amenities have received updates over the years, serving generations of residents looking for walkability in a settled, residential community in northwest Milwaukee. Bordered by the bustling Capitol Drive, Dineen Park offers a life where grocery stores, restaurants, specialized public schools and Milwaukee County Transit System bus stops are all close to home.

Single-family homes from the $100,000s on the northwest side

Sidewalk-lined blocks of single-family homes fan out from Dineen Park. Buyers will find many ranch-style houses, Minimal Traditional homes and Cape Cods. Most properties have somewhere to park the car, whether in a detached garage, a driveway or along a back alley. Many houses have been updated over the years, but there are also opportunities for investors and owner-occupants to build sweat equity in less move-in-ready properties. There are a handful of apartment complexes in the community, offering options for renters and homeowners.

Prices range from the lower $100,000s to the mid-$200,000s. Dineen Park has a median single-family home price in the lower $200,000s. That’s lower than nearby Nash Park and Enderis Park. It’s higher than Capitol Heights and on par with Lenox Heights and Grasslyn Manor.

Milwaukee Public offers neighborhood, charter and specialty options

Milwaukee Public Schools assigns schools by home address, but also offers open enrollment to schools across the city. The Milwaukee Environmental Science Academy is in Dineen Park, one of the charter options associated with MPS. You’re also within blocks of Milwaukee Marshall High School, which offers career and technical education pathways, and the specialty Milwaukee German Immersion School.

Dineen Park's 60 acres of trails and recreation

More than 60 acres of green space center the neighborhood at Dineen Park. Through the warmer months, kids play at the splash park and anglers cast into a small fishing pond. Walking paths, basketball and tennis courts, a baseball diamond, a disc golf course, picnic pavilions and a playground bring residents outside year-round. There’s a smaller playfield with a playground next to the Milwaukee Environmental Science Academy.

Connecting with the Dineen Park Neighborhood Association

"There are a lot of modest homes, and you've got the businesses on Capitol Drive, so it's just a little pocket Milwaukee neighborhood," says Realtor Beth Jaworski, who sells homes in the neighborhood with Shorewest Realtors. This part of the Brew City offers a close-knit feel, in part thanks to the Dineen Park Neighborhood Association. The association invites neighbors to get involved with service and social events throughout the year, from town hall meetings to tennis and fishing clinics held at Dineen Park.

Major roads and transit access near downtown Milwaukee

Commuters can start down Appleton Avenue on the roughly 7-mile drive to East Town. That trip might take 15 minutes or 30 minutes, depending on the time of day. Several Milwaukee County Transit System bus routes run along the busier roads in Dineen Park, often within walking distance of residents.

Restaurants, grocery stores and more on Capitol Drive

The busy Capitol Drive corridor borders Dineen Park, placing residents within blocks of restaurants and stores. Between fast food chains and gas stations, you’ll find locally owned restaurants like Mi Casa, a casual Mexican restaurant, and Kitt’s Frozen Custard, a favorite for sundaes, shakes and hamburgers. Dale’s of Milwaukee is a beloved neighborhood bar. You can pick up groceries at Aldi. Larger shopping districts, like Wauwatosa ’s walkable downtown and the Mayfair indoor mall, are within 5 miles of home.
