Assessors value most of the neighborhood’s 1920s American Craftsman-style houses for between $110,000 and $150,000. Three-bedroom 1960s bi-level houses are valued for between $170,000 and $190,000. North Long Island Drive is lined with six-bedroom 1950s two-story houses that sell for between $95,000 and $180,000. “Homes in Lincoln Park are less expensive than those in the North Shore suburbs but more expensive than neighborhoods like Arlington Heights to the south,” Slinker says.
A highly rated high school
Many children attend Marvin E. Pratt Elementary, which has a 14-to-1 student-teacher ratio and a C-minus Niche rating. Andrew S. Douglas Middle School students have a 5% math and 5% reading proficiency. The school has a D-plus Niche rating. Many teens move on to Rufus King International High School, which has a 17-to-1 student-teacher ratio, an A Niche rating and offers an International Baccalaureate curriculum.Greenspaces full of amenities
Residents travel to Meaux Park to play basketball, cricket and soccer. The park also has a toddler playground. Folks cross Interstate 43 to access the greenspace known as Lincoln Park, which has miles of trails connecting the mainland greenspaces to an island where bird watchers look for Great Blue Herons and Downy Woodpeckers. People also visit the park to play baseball, launch canoes in the Milwaukee River, cool off at the aquatic center, play soccer, take their toddlers to the play area and play golf on the 9-hole course.Local dining and big-box retail
There are multiple dining options on West Hampton Avenue. The S&S Grill & Lounge is known for its barbecue and cocktails. Yum Yum Fish & Chicken serves jumbo shrimp and catfish filets. People drive 2 miles northeast to Bayshore Mall to shop at stores like Gap, Target, Kohl’s and Orvis. Many residents are members of a cooperative called Outpost Natural Foods, which specializes in organic, GMO-free food. The area immediately around the neighborhood also has fast food chains such as McDonald's, Burger King and Chick-fil-A.Professional sports, museums and a casino
Residents travel 9 miles south via Interstate 43 to watch the Milwaukee Brewers play at American Family Field. In the downtown, people visit the Milwaukee Public Museum to see mammoth and dinosaur skeletons. The downtown is also home to the Milwaukee Art Museum, which holds 25,000 works by artists like Andy Warhol, Frank Lloyd Wright and Pablo Picasso. When residents feel lucky, they drive 8 miles south to the Potawatomi Casino Hotel for slots and table games. Cinephiles travel to West Canal Street to watch domestic, international, experimental and documentary films at UWM Union Cinema.
Getting around Lincoln Park and Milwaukee
The Milwaukee County Transit System operates bus stops on North Green Bay Avenue, West Villard Avenue and Hampton Avenue. People travel 7 ½ miles south to Downtown Milwaukee on Interstate 43. Folks can also drive 98 miles south to Downtown Chicago via Interstate 94. The neighborhood is 16 miles north of Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport via Interstate 43. Most Lincoln Park streets have sidewalks, making the neighborhood fairly walkable.
