Lincoln Park is an affordable Milwaukee neighborhood that draws homebuyers who enjoy access to restaurants, shopping and large wooded parks. “There is a good combination of renters, first-time homebuyers and people who have owned previously,” says Broker Chris Slinker, who sells homes in the area with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Metro Realty. “It’s an affordable working-class area where you can get a high-quality home.” Homebuyers also appreciate access to the cultural offerings in Downtown Milwaukee. Most properties have yards large enough to host backyard cookouts on the weekends with family, friends and coworkers who also happen to be neighbors. “Many of the people who live in Lincoln Park work at Johnson Controls, which is based in the area,” Slinker says. The company manufactures automotive batteries.

“Lincoln Park is an affordable, quality eastside of Milwaukee area that has a combination of single-family and multi-family options,” Slinker says. Homebuyers can purchase two-bedroom 1940s bungalows for between $60,000 and $110,000. A three-bedroom ranch-style 1950s home sells for between $90,000 and $180,000. Assessors value most of the neighborhood’s 1920s American Craftsman-style houses for between $110,000 and $150,000. Three-bedroom 1960s bi-level houses are valued for between $170,000 and $190,000. North Long Island Drive is lined with six-bedroom 1950s two-story houses that sell for between $95,000 and $180,000. “Homes in Lincoln Park are less expensive than those in the North Shore suburbs but more expensive than neighborhoods like Arlington Heights to the south,” Slinker says.

Many teens move on to Rufus King International High School, which has a 17-to-1 student-teacher ratio, an A Niche rating and offers an International Baccalaureate curriculum.
