Fun walkable neighborhood with a heartbeat
Like the New York neighborhood it shares a name with, Milwaukee's Lower East Side is a hip, walkable urban neighborhood that “has its own heartbeat,” says Elizabeth Hill, a real estate agent with The Realty Company who sells throughout the Milwaukee area. It's vibrant, lively, and colorful; there's so much to do. It’s a really cool neighborhood.”

Shopping and dining along Brady Street
Lower East Side's biggest draw is Brady Street, one of the neighborhood's main thoroughfares lined with a vast array of restaurants, bars, coffee shops, bakeries and boutiques. There are no big box stores in the neighborhood — the closest is Whole Foods, which is just north of East North Avenue — so residents pick up groceries at family-owned markets like Glorioso’s Italian Market, which has been serving bakery and deli items to the area for over 70 years. For dining out, Ma Fischer’s is a go-to for diner classics and is another long-time favorite. For a night out with friends, locals head to Wolski’s Tavern, which has been operating since 1908 and offers a cozy, divey vibe. Residents must head a few miles down Interstate 94 to get to retailers like Target and Home Depot, but if they need something quickly, Walgreens is conveniently located at East Brady Street and North Warren Avenue.
Lakefront condos with impressive views
Most of the housing in the neighborhood comes in the form of renovated condos that sit in tall complexes, many overlooking Lake Michigan, with rooftop decks that are optimal for summer cookouts and watching the Lakefront Fireworks. Prices range from $110,000 for one bedroom and bathroom to $1.6 million for a three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom penthouse with water views. It's also possible to find single-family homes in the Lower East Side, squat bungalows, or tall Queen Ann homes built in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Many have been turned into duplexes, but the ones that remain single-family are often recently renovated and offer the same walkability to Brady Street and the lake as condos. Lot sizes are small, and many single-family homes are surrounded by apartment and condo complexes. Regarding crime, Lower East Side has a 5 out of 10 on the CAP Index, one point higher than the national average.

Locals get active at Pulaski Park and Lake Michigan
There are multiple green spaces in and around the Lower East Side, including Pulaski Park, which is tucked into the neighborhood's north end and features a softball field, tennis courts, and a children's playground. Lower East Side is also bordered on the shores of Lake Michigan to the east by Juneau Park, Veterans Park, and McKinley Park, which together offer walking trails, tennis courts, fishing, and a marina for boating and sailing enthusiasts.
Milwaukee events in the summer and early fall
Each September, the annual Holiday Folk Faire International is a multicultural music festival that features food, music, dance and art. The Milwaukee Comedy Festival takes place at various venues over several days each October. Farmers’ markets throughout the city are busy during the summer, featuring local produce, crafts and more. Fishing, boating, skiing and other water sports are popular at Lake Michigan, just east of the neighborhood.
