Mount Mary has college life and suburban calm in northwest Milwaukee
On the border of Milwaukee and Wauwatosa, Mount Mary is a place where college life meets quiet, tree-lined residential streets. Mount Mary University is the cornerstone of the community, and its 80-acre campus is a hub for student life and creative community events. Off campus, however, Mount Mary still has much to offer, whether you’re looking for access to parks and trails along the Menomonee River, local specialty stores and cafes or houses that cost less than in Wauwatosa. About 9 miles from the city center, Mount Mary is a convenient place for those looking to walk and bike to campus or commute into East Town.
A mix of early to mid-1900s homes for lower prices than in Wauwatosa
Many of the ranch-style homes and Cape Cods along Mount Mary’s residential blocks were built in the mid-1900s. Buyers will also find older bungalows and Tudor Revival cottages, as well as colonials built in later decades. Sidewalks and tidily landscaped yards give the neighborhood a uniform look, as do plenty of mature trees and extensive sidewalks. You might have a garage accessible from a back alley, or you might park your car on the street.
“It's surprising the variety of home styles available in the neighborhood, even though the area surrounding Mount Mary is small, and they're all pretty reasonable in price,” says Ryan Stefaniak, a real estate agent with The Stefaniak Group. Prices range from the lower $200,000s to the lower $500,000s. Mount Mary has a median single-family home price in the mid-$300,000s. That’s higher than nearby Cooper Park, Kops Park and Golden Valley, but lower than Wauwatosa.
