An established cluster of homes close to downtown
Neighborly joy is abundant in Kops Park, a dense neighborhood in Milwaukee's Northwest Side. Whether residents are grabbing some ground chuck from the family-owned meat market, picking up the latest issue of "The Flash" at the comic bookstore or meeting up with friends at the titular green space, there are countless avenues for community connection. Given its proximity to downtown Milwaukee, many commuters and their families reside in Kops Park. Residents regularly stroll along the walkable neighborhood's gridded streets lined with sidewalks. Most properties are owner-occupied, and when homebuyers are lucky enough to find a house in the neighborhood, they stay for a long time.

Architectural styles from throughout the 20th century
Kops Park's 3,000 residents live in a diverse collection of homes arranged along mostly straight streets with sidewalks. Many lots in the neighborhood back up to long alleys with detached garages, carports and sheds. Popular architectural styles from throughout the 20th century exist in the neighborhood, from pre-World War II Tudors and bungalows to midcentury Cape Cods and ranches. Prices reach $300,000, with floor plans over 1,500 square feet typically sitting towards the higher end. However, smaller yet well-kept homes can go for as little as $150,000, and the median price for a single-family home is $200,000. Houses in Milwaukee sell very quickly, and Kops Park properties are no exception. With listings lasting less than two weeks on the market, it's not uncommon to see "For Sale" signs taken down as quickly as they're put up.

Long-standing locally-owned establishments
A sense of neighborly community defines several locally owned shops in and around Kops Park. Collector's Edge Comics has operated a store in Kops Park for over 30 years. Consistently named Milwaukee's best comic bookstore by the Shepherd Express, it bills itself as the state's "largest over-the-counter comics retailer," with hundreds of thousands of issues in its collection. Down the road is longtime-standing Bunzel's Old-Fashioned Meat Market, which the Bunzel family has owned and operated for four generations. Though the store closed after current owner Chip Bunzel's grandfather passed, his father reopened it in 1976 and brought all six kids to work with him. "It was scary, but we managed to keep things afloat, and the community has been great to us," Chip says. Today, new and returning patrons love to browse the shop's selection of regionally sourced meats, including award-winning beef jerky. "During the summer, we'll go through an awful lot of brats, and on Saturdays, we'll have our hot dog stand outside," Chip says. Residents can head west to the major plazas along Burleigh Street and N 124th Street for more familiar shopping. Familiar chain restaurants accompany Target, Whole Foods, T.J. Maxx and other stores.
