Centennial bungalows and American Foursquares
Sidewalks connect the neighborhood, passing covered front porches and yards enclosed with chain-link fences. Street names like Teutonia Avenue point toward the earliest years of the area's German heritage. Land goes for a premium this close to the city's main drag, so front and back yards are minimal, rarely requiring extensive upkeep outside of corner lots. Most homes in the area are bungalows and American Foursquares, with a median construction date of 1900. As a result, extensive renovation may be required before an official move-in date can be set. The least expensive homes are often tax foreclosures, falling between the low $5,000s and the mid-$18,000s. Single-story bungalows begin in the mid-$30,000s and peak in the mid-$100,000s with improved maintenance and amenities like bonus rooms. American Foursquare models start in the low $40,000s and reach the high $100,000s depending on condition and size.

Follow in the footsteps of Golda Meir
Students begin their education at Hopkins Lloyd Community School, which serves prekindergarten through eighth grade and has a C-minus on Niche. Students attending North Division High School will follow in the footsteps of Golda Meir, former Israeli prime minister and NDHS alum who lived in the area during a boom of Jewish immigration in the early days of the 20th century. First opened in 1906, North Division High School has a C-minus on Niche and is known for its murals celebrating the arts, diversity and Black history. “The high school is a big draw for families in the area,” says Sonya Mays, a broker at Midwest Executive Realty. “People take a lot of pride in their time there.” The Milwaukee Parental Choice Program offers qualifying students partial or full tuition coverage for private schools in the area.
