Northridge Lakes
Properties starting below $100,000
The water roughly divides Northridge Lakes into two sections: apartments for rent to the west and homes for purchase to the east. East Bay on the Lake comprises most of the latter, offering two- to four-bedroom condominiums from the early 1970s. Each of its two clusters of apartment-style buildings centers around a community pool. Detached housing is less common in the area and is primarily confined to a small section along North 70th Street. Colonials, split-level and ranch-style houses, and a handful of Millennial Mansions appear here, some built as recently as the early 2000s. The average homebuyer will spend around $150,000 on a Northridge Lakes property, though two-bedroom condos start around $90,000. Single-family home prices can reach the $400,000s for four-bedroom builds over 5,000 square feet.Immediate access to 510 open acres
Mequon Nature Preserve covers 510 acres immediately northwest of Northridge Lakes. Its prairies, forests and wetlands draw year-round visitors, many of whom enjoy watching birds and other wildlife from the central observation tower. Visitors can also go for a heart-healthy walk or run on its several miles of trails. Barnes adds that locals often drive a few minutes east to Brown Deer to attend village-wide festivities. “People can go to concerts in the park and things like that,” she says. “There’s a new library there that offers tons of activities.”
Unique agricultural and technological learning
Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) operates several K-12 schools within a few miles of Northridge Lakes. Henry David Thoreau School is the closest option for MPS students between kindergarten and eighth grade. It serves over 300 students about 2 miles away and has a C-minus from Niche. Vincent High School, rated a D-plus, accommodates 700-plus teens who can participate in in-depth courses focused on agriculture and technology. Meanwhile, the nearby Institute of Technology and Academics offers a private alternative for K-8 students. Many applicants are eligible for cost-free tuition, according to its website.Big-box stores next door
Brown Deer Road runs along Northridge Lakes to the south, offering a direct route to several restaurants and retailers. Walmart Supercenter and Aldi operate locations less than ½ mile east, inviting residents to load up on groceries and other household needs. Menards is the only current tenant of Northridge Mall to the west and sells home improvement goods. Between Walmart Supercenter and Aldi is Family Table, an all-day diner that has operated since 1988 and is known for its chicken and waffles. Perkins Boyz on tha Grill serves soul food staples in the neighborhood’s southeast corner, with dishes including catfish and sides like mac and cheese. More eateries and stores are at the Marketplace of Brown Deer, less than 2 miles east.Downtown Milwaukee in about 20 minutes
Northridge Lakes is about 5 miles from Interstate 43, which usually takes drivers to downtown Milwaukee in about 20 minutes. Bus stops are also available along Brown Deer Road for public transportation users.
