Tripoli Park is close to green spaces and suburban convenience
With one of Milwaukee County’s largest public parks to the east and beautiful Brown Deer to the north, Tripoli Park has several nature and shopping escapes within arm’s reach without being too far from downtown Milwaukee.
Larger-than-average yards and private driveways are common
Tripoli Park is among the more spread-out neighborhoods on Milwaukee’s Northwest Side, with winding streets and multiple cul-de-sacs separated by green, tree-filled blocks. Over 1,200 people live in the residential section, which makes up most of the neighborhood’s acreage. Colonial and ranch-style houses from the mid-to-late 20th century are the most common home styles here, though Cape Cod and split-level designs also occasionally appear. Thanks to the abundant space between streets, lots in Tripoli Park tend to have larger backyards than usual, and many feature private driveways and garages. A three-bedroom rambler with nearly 1,500 square feet and an attached garage could cost up to the low $300,000s, while smaller Cape Cods with fewer updates start around the mid-$100,000s.
Outdoor fun includes disc golf, skiing and fishing in a stocked lagoon
Even with a generous backyard, you might find yourself longing for grander pastures now and then. Thankfully, Brown Deer Park lies just east across Teutonia Avenue. This 362-acre expanse features more than enough space to accommodate any outdoor activity you might crave, whether it’s a game of traditional or disc golf, soccer, rugby or baseball. If a relaxing stroll is more your speed, you can follow the park’s footpaths through spots of forest, open fields and the park’s pond. The pond isn’t just good for shimmering views, however. “If you have a fishing license, that lagoon is stocked by the Department of Natural Resources, so people like to fish there,” says Rob Guilbert of Friends of Brown Deer Park. He adds, “In the winter, cross-country skiing is a big activity.”
Each nearby school features a distinct academic focus
Several Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) operate within a 10-minute drive of Tripoli Park, while an acclaimed private school sits within the neighborhood. The latter, Risen Savior Lutheran School, accepts kindergarten through seventh grade students to its Tripoli Park campus and boasts a rare five-star rating from Wisconsin’s education department. Meanwhile, Hawthorne School accommodates kindergarten through fifth grade only a block or two to the south, offering various activities, including soccer, cheerleading and other athletic programs. Henry David Thoreau School, about five minutes northwest, welcomes kindergarten through eighth grade students to flex their creative muscles in clubs dedicated to drama, band and more. And at James Madison Academic Campus, high schoolers can prep for college with Advanced Placement classes like English literature and world geography or to undergo career training with the school’s three NAF Academies.
Crispy Kitchen and Rollies Tavern are favorite spots for a bite
Businesses and employers operate along Teutonia Avenue, including local restaurants and watering holes. To the south, Crispy Kitchen serves classic, casual American cuisine, from buckets of fried chicken to sumptuous shakes. Head just north of the neighborhood, and you’ll hit Rollies Tavern, where you can cheer on the Packers while downing cold ones, munching on your favorite bar foods and shooting pool or darts.
Getting groceries in Brown Deer and running errands in Milwaukee
You’ll find more big-name and family-owned restaurants about six minutes to the north in Brown Deer, along with a Pick n Save grocery store and other retailers. Another franchise supermarket, Save A Lot, operates just a few minutes to the south. And if you need to visit downtown Milwaukee to take care of errands, you can drive there in about 20 minutes.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
