Cedar-Isles-Dean borders three lakes and has a mix of homes

Cedar-Isles-Dean puts residents close to the water. The southwestern Minneapolis neighborhood is next to three lakes, offering plenty of opportunities for recreation and retreat. The area’s varied homes are typically more expensive than those in nearby communities because of the water access. It’s also zoned for a highly rated school district and within a few miles of celebrated bakeries and international restaurants.

What homeowners often pay for single-family homes and condos

Much of the neighborhood’s single-family housing stock is from the early 1900s and includes Tudors, Colonial Revivals and Craftsman-style homes, among others. Prices can range from the mid-$600,000s to around $1.8 million. Condos often run from the mid-$100,000s to the mid-$700,000s, and townhomes can sell between the lower $400,000s and the mid-$700,000s. The neighborhood is generally more expensive than the surrounding communities, with Kenwood being an exception.

A neighborhood brought together by events and the outdoors

The community has a more suburban feel than neighborhoods closer to the city center, but residents can still access much of what Minneapolis has to offer. “You’ve got the trees and the privacy, the cool landscape, but you can also hop on public [transit] and get downtown,” says Marcy Libby, a real estate agent with the Pease & Libby Team of Coldwell Banker Realty Minneapolis Lakes. Thanks to its location, Cedar-Isles Dean is an active community. Residents spend a lot of time relaxing at nearby lakes and running or biking along trails. The area’s homes reflect this attitude, often coming with saunas that help people recover after exercise. Cedar-Isles-Dean Neighborhood Association brings residents together through events such as summer solstice celebrations, ice cream socials and community clean-ups.

Area lakes offer boating, fishing and winter sports

The neighborhood borders Cedar Lake, Bde Maka Ska and Lake of the Isles, three links in the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes, which are connected by trails and canals. Libby says that Bde Maka Ska is the largest of the lakes and gets the most visitors, while Cedar Lake is the smallest and is quieter, in part because there’s less parking near the water. That lake’s draw is its “hidden beach” on the eastern side of the water, which is known as a kayaking spot. Lake of the Isles and Bde Maka Ska have parks and trails that encircle the water. All three lakes offer swimming and fishing, and Cedar Lake's park area has opportunities for cross-country skiing and other winter sports. The nearby Lake of the Isles Off-Leash Dog Park gives furry friends a place to run free.

Most people in this area are in the service industry because of the abundance of shops and restaurants. It seems that employers make sure they pay their workers well and are understanding.

Absolutely beautiful houses, especially around the lakes. Lots of styles present, and a very healthy variation in sizes.
