Northeast Park is a creative Minneapolis neighborhood
Northeast Park is next to the city's arts district, and that creative energy seeps into this Minneapolis neighborhood. Old warehouses have been renovated into breweries and cafes, and colorful murals decorate parts of Northeast Athletic Field Park. Homebuyers can find lower prices in the neighborhood than in some nearby communities. Thanks to Interstate 35 West, it’s easy to get across the Twin Cities.

Home prices trend lower than in other Northeast neighborhoods
Homeowners and renters come to Northeast Park, where you can find single-family homes, duplexes and apartments. Most of the houses were built in the early 1900s, including workers cottages and Craftsman styles, but there are some ranch-style houses from the mid-20th century. Back alleys lead to driveways and detached garages, and there’s plenty of room for street parking out front. Prices generally range from the mid-$200,000s to the mid-$400,000s, and the median single-family home price is lower than in Logan Park. These lower prices, plus the proximity to the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District, attract first-time homebuyers to the area. “In recent years, we’ve gotten a lot of folks in their 20s and early 30s that are artsy or hipster-y,” says Katie Kottenbrock, chair of the Lower Northeast Neighborhood Association.

Artistic events in the Northrup King Building
The Northrup King Building is in Logan Park, just minutes away from the neighborhood, and has over 300 artist studios and small businesses. While each artist sets their own hours, the building regularly hosts events showcasing tenants’ works. Arts Attack, a weekend-long festival every fall, gives people the chance to watch live art demos and connect with other creatives. Over 70,000 people visit the complex every May for Art-A-Whirl.
The Lower Northeast Neighborhood Association regularly hosts community events, and the highlight of the year is the Northeast Park Fest every July. Residents spend the evening mingling with neighbors and learning about the community. “It’s a resource fair with food and entertainment,” says Kottenbrock.
Sociable Cider Werks and The Quarry are big draws
Turn-of-the-20th-century warehouses have been restored into local businesses, including Sociable Cider Werks, which Kottenbrock says is the highlight of the neighborhood. “It’s a fun place with a lot of events,” she says. “It draws the community in.” There’s weekly trivia, live music and pop-up events like art markets. Some other local spots include:
Spyhouse Coffee Roasters, a popular Minneapolis cafe and roastery
Que Viet Village House, a family-owned Vietnamese restaurant with popular egg rolls
Francis Burger Joint, a plant-based eatery with gluten-free and dairy-free menu options
Padraigs Brewing, a craft brewery that takes inspiration from traditional Irish brewing

It’s less than 5 miles (15 minutes) to downtown Minneapolis and about 15 miles (25 minutes) to downtown Saint Paul. Metro Transit buses stop in the neighborhood, and many people walk or bike for shorter distances.
