Some places are perfectly named. Like Bayview. Situated just 9 miles from Downtown Mobile, this quiet community rests along the sparkling emerald waters of Mobile Bay. Also close to the Dog River, there are plenty of aquatic activities for those who want to experience them and, of course, magnificent waterfront views.

Residents of Bayview appreciate not only the easy access to waterways, but that the area is “Very peaceful, and everyone looks out for each other.”

Homes in Bayview are a delightful assortment of everything from traditional ranch houses to modest cottages. There are also split-levels, shotgun houses, and farmhouses dotted along the winding roads. You’ll soon notice brick is a favorite building material here and that yards are kept very tidy. Those lawns can be quite sizable considering lots in the area typically run one-acre or less. Single-family dwellings range from $42,000 to $170,000.

One of the most noticeable things about Mobile is the abundant amount of green space it has. Close to the west and south borders of Bayview, residents have three parks to choose from whenever the urge to be outdoors strikes. The largest is McNally Park which is found on the bay’s waterfront. Pavilions with picnic tables are dotted throughout the space and there’s a field for games of baseball or softball. If you want to spend an afternoon on the water, bring your kayak or small craft as there’s both a boat ramp and launch to help you explore the waterway.

To the west, Trimmier Park offers guests a playground for children and walking trails for adults. There are also football and baseball fields as well as basketball courts and pavilions. Close by, Newhouse Park and Teen Center has a neighborhood center where youth can go to play basketball or baseball or simply to socialize. There’s a walking trail and pavilions here too.

Slightly south of Bayview, the Buccaneer Yacht Club is a member-run club founded in 1928 when four men banded together to have a 30-foot sailboat built. When completed it was called the “Buccaneer,” and by July of that year, they’d elected officers and made the club official. Since then, members of the Buccaneer Yacht Club have constructed a bar, pool, cabana, clubhouse, and harbor facilities.

Nearly a hundred years after it began, the club is still dedicated to sailing for pleasure and competitions, and residents of Bayview are still happy to experience the many races the club puts on. For instance, it sponsors the yearly Dauphin Island Race over a weekend of live music, races, and lots of fun.

While Bayview is primarily residential, there are still fabulous dining choices mere minutes away. Just at the southern edge of the neighborhood, Bama Bob’s BBQ is a nationally ranked and award-winning restaurant serving traditional dishes like brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. The red and white building immediately stands out with its larger-than-life sculpture of a large bullhead over the ordering window. There’s seating both indoors and outdoors and daily specials like Wing Wednesday.

A little further south, The River Shack rests along the shores of the Dog River and offers not only incredible views but live music as well. This rustic hole-in-the-wall has a large patio for outdoor dining and is known for its fried or blackened catfish sandwiches and platters.

Bayview is served by the Mobile County Public Schools district and is home to Ben C. Rain High School. It opened in 1963 and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Only 15 minutes from Downtown with all its museums, art galleries, and restaurants, Bayview offers residents an almost rural feel with the comforts of home and nature close by.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students.
