West Mobile neighborhood in proximity to work, recreation and a college
The neighborhood of Cody sits in West Mobile near both the University of South Alabama and Magnolia Grove golf course. Cody’s housing prices, comparatively inexpensive for the area, and proximity to employers gives the community exceptional appeal. “This is a great middle-class area with affordable housing. The subdivisions are all well-maintained,” says Bill Hinton, Associate Broker with Roberts Brothers who has been selling homes in the area for 36 years and has seen the neighborhood change quite a bit over that time span. “Some of the subdivisions weren’t so good a few years ago, but with prices going up, people invested in the subdivisions and upgraded the houses.” These recently updated ranch-style homes tend to sell between $100,000 and $200,000.
Many homes in the Cody neighborhood are built on medium sized lots with many trees.
Many homes in the Cody neighborhood are smaller, with minimal builds.

Homes have been recently renovated or have upgrades on the horizon
Cody can be divided into several subdivisions. “If you’re going east on Zeigler, to your left, you’ll see Greenwood Estates, built in the ‘70s. Houses there sell between $100,000 and $200,000, depending on how updated they are,” Hinton says. “And as you move down more, you’ll see West Park Manor. The houses there have 2 or 3 bedrooms. Mostly, they’ve been rental places for years, but with prices going up, people are fixing them up and selling them.” Rental properties still exist, many of which appeal to students because of their proximity to campus. Renovated homes in West Park Manor can start around $120,000 and go up to about $200,000, while homes that are still on their way are valued at around $70,000 to $80,000. But Hinton notes similarities across all subdivisions. “They’re all good neighborhoods with well-maintained homes,” Hinton says, emphasizing many homes’ recent updates. Ranch-style homes are the most common, some with Colonial Revival influences, others following midcentury modern designs. On occasion, homebuyers can also find larger New Traditional homes.
Some Cody homes are small, minimal style builds situated on elevated lots.
There are also homes with well-manicured front lawns in the Cody neighborhood.
