Called the “Jewel on Joachim,” Mobile’s Saenger Theatre is a historic landmark that opened in 1927. This beacon of cultural history can seat nearly 2,000 patrons to host the Mobile Symphony Orchestra and the Summer Classic Movie Series. Inspired by classical Greek mythology and intended to resemble the opera houses of Europe, the theatre has been called the “most beautiful playhouse” along the Gulf Coast. It hosts ballets, plays, musicals, and concerts in the heart of Downtown’s entertainment district. As for restaurants, Iron Hand Brewing is “crafting community through craft beer.” It’s Mobile’s oldest brewery, and the large taproom can hold 80 people at a time. The brewpub is named for Henri de Tonti, a metal-prosthetic-wearing founder of Mobile. Legend has it that he cut off his own hand after it was maimed to continue fighting at the Battle of Sicily. Named after this folklore, Iron Hand has a variety of beers, American food options and weekly events like trivia and bingo. At Moe’s Original BBQ, patrons can go to the entertainment room for live music and eat in a fast-casual restaurant that makes all its sides and desserts in-house daily from scratch.
