Residential city neighborhood
A mere 2 miles from Downtown Mobile, the Fisher neighborhood is close to all the action while maintaining a sense of residential hominess. “Fisher is near Downtown, is walking distance to the entertainment district and is on the Mardi Gras parade route,” says Realtor Justin Wilhelmy, who has 15 years of experience in the area and works with IXL Real Estate. From historic houses to new construction, Fisher has houses galore to choose from and an urban lifestyle free of business district bustle.
Smaller lots and homes
Fisher is mostly composed of blocks of single-family homes with small yards — the lots in Fisher are around a quarter acre in size. Although the area isn’t walkable for errands, it does have some sidewalks for strolls among mature trees. As for architecture, the homes in the area also tend to be smaller: a mixture of quaint cottages, shotgun houses, ranch-style houses and bungalows. Prospective buyers can also find homes with Greek Revival elements and a few multi-story houses. The sales prices range from $15,000 to $119,000 for a single-family home.

Grocery shopping and lively restaurants
To stock up on produce and groceries, residents can visit the Greer's Downtown Market. As for restaurants, Iron Hand Brewing is “crafting community through craft beer.” It’s Mobile’s oldest brewery, and the large taproom can hold 80 people at a time. The brewpub is named for Henri de Tonti, a metal-prosthetic-wearing founder of Mobile. Legend has it that he cut off his own hand after it was maimed to continue fighting at the Battle of Sicily. Named after this folklore, Iron Hand has a variety of beers, American food options and weekly events like trivia and bingo. At Moe’s Original BBQ, patrons can go to the entertainment room for live music and eat in a fast-casual restaurant that makes all its sides and desserts in-house daily from scratch.

Theatre performances to Mardi Gras history
Called the “Jewel on Joachim,” Mobile’s Saenger Theatre is a historic landmark that opened in 1927. This beacon of cultural history can seat nearly 2,000 patrons to host the Mobile Symphony Orchestra and the Summer Classic Movie Series. Inspired by classical Greek mythology and intended to resemble the opera houses of Europe, the theatre has been called the “most beautiful playhouse” along the Gulf Coast. It hosts ballets, plays, musicals, and concerts in the heart of Downtown’s entertainment district. Locals can visit the Mobile Carnival Museum to learn about the history of Mardi Gras and view exhibits featuring colorful costumes and parade floats.
