Larkspur is 5 miles from Mobile's main interstate system
Tall pine trees and overgrown wetlands form a thick wall around Larkspur's south and east sides, muffling the noise from nearby Interstate 10. The neighborhood sits about 5 miles west of Mobile's main interstate system, which makes commuting to work a breeze. "A lot of folks working at the Chevron Refinery look for homes here because of that," Ashley Watson says. A lifelong local and Realtor with Keller Williams, Watson says Larkspur is part of an unincorporated community called Tillmans Corner. "They've got a lot of businesses out there; nothing fancy though, just some locally-owned restaurants and places like foosacklys, Whataburger and the Walmart Supercenter."

No Homeowners Association fees, large lots and ranch-style homes
Most homes in Larkspur were built between the 1960s and '90s. They usually feature ranch-style architecture with front-facing garages or attached carports, but some older properties only have driveways. Similar-style manufactured houses are scattered throughout the neighborhood, too. Many homes are remodeled with modern kitchen appliances and granite countertops, while others are aging fixer-uppers. With no Homeowners Associations and large lots, residents can add backyard pools, patios and tool sheds without worrying about fines or restrictions. These listings typically range between $100,000 to $250,000, but some New Traditionals from the early 2000s can list closer to $300,000. Investors or buyers looking to build their homes will find empty lots ranging from about $15,000 for a half-acre to $480,000 for a multi-acre property.
Like most of Mobile, Larkspur experiences minor street flooding from time to time. Wide storm drains and deep ditches line most neighborhood streets to help prevent flooding, but those with unpaved driveways can still struggle during the rainy season, which runs from June through November.
