Quiet homes on the Dog River
Views of the tranquil Dog River, access to community parks and woodsy residences on spacious lots bring buyers to Lourdes. "It has more of a rural feel because it's so spread out and not as densely populated," says Summer Poole, a lifelong Mobile resident who works as a Digital Media Journalist with WRKG News 5. "It's really quiet, but marinas are close, so it's super popular for boaters and anglers." In addition to its water access, the neighborhood sits along the Dauphin Island Parkway, or DIP. The road connects residents to downtown Mobile and other communities along Mobile Bay. Convenience to the city makes this a desirable location for buyers seeking waterfront living while remaining close to major employers and amenities.

Kayaking at McNally Park
With the Dog River running alongside the neighborhood, getting out on the water is a given for many residents. "Fishing and boating on the Dog River are favorite activities. The river connects to Mobile Bay so people will take their boat out there or down to Dauphin Island," says Poole. "The river occasionally closes for bacteria levels after storms, but that usually doesn't last long." McNally Park is less than 2 miles from the neighborhood, offering athletic fields and a grassy lawn with picnic areas. The park also has a boat ramp and kayak launch. Trimmier Park offers youth athletic fields and a playground. Anglers, boaters and kayakers may also enjoy Dog River Park, 8 miles away. In addition to the quiet fishing piers and boat ramps, the park also has a colorful playground.
Residents with boats may moor their vehicles at the Dog River Marina, Dockside Marina, or Mobile Yacht Club. The Mobile Yacht Club was founded in 1847 and is the second-oldest private boating and sailing club in the United States. The clubhouse has a full-service bar, restaurant, bathhouse and pool. Mobile Yacht Club also hosts numerous events, like the Dauphin Island Regatta.
