New Traditional ranch-style homes in Maxwell Place
Melrose’s oldest homes date back to the 1980s and ‘90s. These ranch-style houses are situated along wide residential streets on the neighborhood’s southwest side. Many of the roads end in cul-de-sacs with large storm drains. This helps prevent minor flooding during the rainy season, which usually runs from June through September. On average, these older homes range from $150,000 to $250,000. Melrose’s newest properties are neatly arranged around a central roundabout in the Maxwell Place subdivision. Built in the late 2010s, these New Traditional ranch-style houses have front-facing two-car garages and sunny back patios. Prices here usually range from $300,000 to $400,000.Community sports leagues at West Mobile County Park
West Mobile County Park is fewer than 5 miles from Melrose. It has eight ball fields that host the county’s adult and youth softball leagues and an 18-hole disc golf course. West Mobile Swim Club is just outside the neighborhood. A family-owned business, the Club has a water slide, diving boards and lap lanes, where the swim team competes each Thursday during the summer.Baker High has 10 career academies

Snow Road bounds the west side of Melrose and serves as a convenient shortcut to the nearby City of Semmes.Joe's Pizza & Pasta is a local staple
Vigouroux Market Place is a small shopping center adjacent to Melrose. It has a Winn-Dixie, a Walgreens and a couple of fast-food spots. In 2023, Yellowhammer Coffee moved into the gas station right across the street. A family-owned local franchise, the coffee shop serves seasonal brews every day but Sunday. Joe’s Pizza & Pasta is a longtime staple restaurant on the other side of Melrose. Continuing about 2 miles east, Schillinger Road has big box stores, restaurant chains and national retailers like Ulta and Hobby Lobby.Mobile Regional Airport is moving downtown
Melrose sits just outside the city limits, immediately west of the Mobile Regional Airport. While the U.S. Coast Guard and Airbus Space and Defense still train at the facilities, Ballard says commercial flights will move downtown in 2025. “They’re relocating to Brookley Field and building one of the longest runways in the area; it’s going to be our first international airport.”
