Mertz, a neighborhood of Mobile, offers a residential community for a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the city without being far away. “It’s a peaceful area with a suburban feel in city limits,” says team leader Elaine Sessions who has 15 years of experience and works with The Sessions Team at Roberts Brothers West office. The streets brim with tall oak trees and midcentury ranch-style home architecture close to an ample strip mall.
Single-family cottages and traditional ramblers
Southwest of downtown Mobile, Mertz is composed of a few developments of single-family houses and a business region. The area isn’t walkable, but it’s dense with greenery like hedges and towering oak trees on larger yards. As for architecture, the area has endless ranch-style houses and cottages from the 1960s through the 1980s, lending Mertz a midcentury feel. To personalize the homes, buyers can choose from brick and vinyl exteriors in an array of colors or paint the shutters and front doors. Sales prices range from $57,000 for a ranch-style in need of renovations to $155,000 for an updated ranch-style house. “The area is affordable overall. It has a lot of smaller homes,” Sessions says.
