Homes in Outer West Mobile are an assortment of different styles: ranch-style homes, French-inspired homes, mansions on estates, waterfront homes and contemporary houses. Sales prices range from $225,000 for a ranch-style home to $2 million for a mansion on an estate. “The area has low crime and a low cost of living compared to the rest of the country,” Powers says.
Students in Outer West Mobile go to the Mobile County Public School District, which earns a B-minus grade according to Niche. Schools include Elsie Collier Elementary School, Semmes Middle School and Mary G. Montgomery High School. The elementary school has a B grade, the middle school has a C and the high school earns a C-plus rating on Niche. The high school offers unique programs like the Academy of Agri-Business and the Academy of Business Management.
At Big Creek Lake, locals can find boat ramps for a day on the water and go bank fishing. West Mobile County Park features a disc golf course, a playground and picnic tables. It also offers athletes lighted fields for football, soccer and softball. The county sponsors sports leagues like girls' softball, adult softball and youth soccer, and regional tournaments like the Babe Ruth Regional often take place at the park.

TLC Liners Nursery has been in business for 20 years and specializes in ornamental horticulture, including a variety of shrubs. As for restaurants, Highway 217 Cafe serves breakfasts in a relaxed, down-home atmosphere. Semmes House of Pizza offers New York-style pies in an interior with booth seating and TVs to watch sports games.
At Semmes Library, locals can go to events like Storytimes, chess club meetings and craft sessions. Hatcher Farms is a family-owned and operated events venue just outside city limits. Situated on plentiful acreage, the tranquil venue is surrounded by towering oak trees. The reception area has an open floor plan, high ceilings and oversized windows. Bride and groom suites provide plenty of room for the wedding party. The grounds feature a stocked pond with a floating dock, a courtyard with fireplace and seating for 400 people.
About 13 miles from downtown Mobile, residents of Outer West Mobile can easily commute to the big city via Cottage Hill Road by car since there is no public transit in the area. As for a nearby hospital, locals can go to the Mobile Infirmary. Residents can also access the Mobile International Airport for further travel from business trips to vacations.
