West of downtown Mobile, Outer West Mobile is mostly composed of woodlands, pastures and nurseries. There’s plenty of room for new development, and lots in the area tend to be spacious, usually between one-acre and up to an entire farm. Many lawns feature native plants in the landscaping. “It’s not a cookie-cutter neighborhood,” says broker Paul Powers who works with Power Real Estate and has 16 years of experience in the area. Homes in Outer West Mobile are an assortment of different styles: ranch-style homes, French-inspired homes, mansions on estates, waterfront homes and contemporary houses. Sales prices range from $225,000 for a ranch-style home to $2 million for a mansion on an estate. “The area has low crime and a low cost of living compared to the rest of the country,” Powers says.
