A wide Overton window of prices
Overton is divided into a few subdivisions thanks to Milkhouse Creek, its branches and the neighborhood’s street layout. Sugar Creek is an HOA neighborhood in Overton’s northeast corner. “Sugar Creek’s kept its value very well,” Sessions says. “It has two entrances, one off Grelot Road and one off Hillcrest Road, so depending on where you’re going, you can go out one or the other. All the homes are different styles; no two are alike. They’re all kinds of different price ranges.” South of Sugar Creek, there’s the Lubarrett and Inverness subdivisions, and across the creek, there’s Lexington. “People love Lexington because they get a lot of square footage for their money,” Sessions says. “You can get 3,000 square feet for less than half a million. And all the homes are all different and custom-built.” What all subdivisions do have in common are well-maintained sidewalks, pristine front lawns and friendly residents. Homes in east Lubarrett tend to follow ranch-style and split-level designs, selling in the $200,000s, while Inverness’ larger ranch homes get into the $300,000s. Custom-built New Traditional and Cape Cod homes in Lexington with 3,000 to 5,000 square feet of space go for between $400,000 and $600,000. In Sugar Creek, homebuyers will find a mix of styles, like New Traditional and Colonial Revival, and prices, ranging from just below $300,000 to a bit above $500,000.Movie theaters and outdoor adventures
Overton is just west of Medal of Honor Park, a massive park with sports fields, a disc golf course, a dog park and more. In the summer, kids can get soaked and cool off on the park’s splash pad, while the park’s giant playground is open for fun year-round. Otherwise, locals can kick back and watch the latest blockbusters on reclining chairs and while enjoying top-notch dinners at Nexus Cinema Dining.Mobile County Schools engineer students for success
Kids who live east of Milkhouse Creek can attend Olive J. Dodge Elementary while those who live west of the creek can attend O’Rourke Elementary. Both schools feed into Burns Middle and W. P. Davidson High School. Dodge Elementary and Burns Middle have C-ratings from Niche while O’Rourke Elementary and Davidson High are B-rated or higher. Davidson High students can participate in the school’s Engineering Pathways Integrated Curriculum (EPIC) program, which prepares students for careers and education in the fields of biomedical science, computer science and engineering. As part of the program, students must complete an extracurricular activity such as designing a circuit board or mentoring with a practicing engineer.Close to highways, the airport and the hospital
Residents are a 15-minute drive to Interstates 10 and 65. Mobile Regional Airport is 10 minutes away by car while USA Health Providence Hospital is less than 10 minutes north for most locals.Shopping and dining in Overton
Residents of the Sugar Creek subdivision are only a few minutes to Winn-Dixie, while residents to the south are similarly close to a Publix and Walmart Neighborhood Market. Fast food restaurants can be found nearby these supermarkets, though residents can choose from local eateries too. Mediterranean-style cuisine meets Southern comfort food at Ollie’s, with lamb burgers and fried kibbeh on the menu. Though the highlight might be the Mardi Gras, which combines shrimp, Conecuh sausage, crawfish and mushrooms into one scrumptious pasta dish. For more international cuisine, locals can check out Benja’s Thai & Sushi Restaurant and El Giro Mexican Restaurant.
