There may be neighborhoods closer to the shops around Airport Boulevard or the entertainment in downtown Mobile, but Rickarby's location is still the draw. Shops, restaurants and activities are within 3 miles, and its home prices are lower than in surrounding Midtown communities. "The suburban streets are the heart of the neighborhood, but there's lots of entertainment a few minutes away in both downtown Mobile and Airport Boulevard," says Mitchell Hudson, a Realtor with iXL Real Estate Mobile, who has sold homes in the city for three years. Mature trees densely shade the neighborhood, but residents are close enough to downtown that the city energy can still be felt, especially during the two-week Mardi Gras celebration. "We're the birthplace of Mardi Gras, but not many people know that," says Realtor and associate broker Jennifer Ballard with Bellator Real Estate. Ballard has been selling homes for nearly ten years. "It's a huge part of life in Mobile --you'll definitely feel the energy, even in these quieter neighborhoods."

Budget-friendly shingle cottages and Craftsman-style homes
Most homes in this suburban community have their yards packed with mature oak and magnolia trees, making residences feel secluded. Still, the easily navigable grid layout and paved sidewalks are a reminder of the city's convenience. Most homes here are Craftsman-style bungalows, shingle-clad cottages and ranch-style houses. Prices typically range from $80,000 to $125,000, but renovated houses hit the market between $135,000 and $180,000.

The street I live on is very trashy. Constant loud vehicular traffic. Neighbors are loud with their vehicles and music. There are many feral cats and loose dogs who leave their mess behind. The schools are not very good. And as I said the area is very trashy, an indication how much the neighbors respect not only themselves but their fellow neighbors. There are two house for sale, one next door to me and if I could warn potential buyers I would. I have alerted my counsel member and he did or say little. Definitely an area to stay clear of.
