Desirable homes on the Dog River
Surrounded by coves of the Dog River, Riviere Du Chien offers peaceful residences settled among parks, golf courses and waterfront views. The neighborhood earned its name from the river, courtesy of Mobile's 18th-century French colonists. "Access to the river is the main thing that draws buyers here," says Realtor Jennifer Ballard with Bellator Real Estate, who has sold homes for nearly a decade. "It's a good place to invest in, and some buyers use homes here for short-term rentals." In addition to its peaceful enclaves, the desirable community offers access to the rest of Mobile via Interstate 10.
Riviere Du Chien is the perfect spot to relax, reconnect, and enjoy life.

Fishing and kayaking at Schwarz Park
Riviere Du Chien is home to Schwarz Park, a woodsy area with a trail leading down to Halls Mill Creek Landing. It's a simple, sandy area where visitors can launch a kayak onto the Dog River or go fishing for trout or redfish. This area was home to an 18-hole Linksman Golf Course, which has been renovated and renamed Cypress Creek Golf Course at Riviere Du Chien Park. The park will also feature golf practice areas, pickleball courts, and a waterfront area with a boardwalk for fishing. Nearby, Dog River Park has a playground, sports courts, a walking trail, a fishing pier and a boat launch area. Those fishing or kayaking on the Dog River should visit Mobile County's website to monitor the river's bacteria levels after heavy rains.

Waterfront views in Riviere Du Chien Estates
Homes are settled along the quiet coves of the Dog River, lined with tall trees and waterfront docks. "This area has a lot of privacy because of its location on the river," says Realtor Aleta Boudreaux with Azalea Real Estate, who has sold homes for 40 years. "But you're still living near the highway, so you have plenty of convenience." Most homes are ranch-style and new traditional, built in the early 1990s. Higher-end waterfront properties are predominately in Riviere du Chien Estates and have private boat decks, pools and stunning, unobstructed views. Prices for homes here cost between $350,000 and $700,000. Due to the neighborhood's riverfront location, homes are susceptible to flooding during hurricane season. Some homes are lifted, to prevent flood damage.
