Close to a beautiful country club and the interstates
Spring Valley isn’t brimming with rambunctious festivals or parties, but that’s exactly how locals like it. They like their quiet neighborhood, containing one of Mobile’s finest country clubs. And when they do want to hop over to downtown or anywhere else in the city, three major highways are just a few minutes’ drive away. “It’s a well-established area that’s conveniently located to interstates, shopping and restaurants, as well as the Heron Lakes Country Club,” says Jennifer Ballard, a Realtor with Bellator Real Estate. “It’s also conveniently located by Mississippi for those who work at the Chevron refinery plants in Pascagoula, and about 10 minutes from downtown Mobile,” says Ballard, who has been selling homes for more than 7 years and living in Mobile for more than 20. Modest ranch-style homes begin at $200,000, while larger estates by the country club start around $400,000.

Modest homes and estates by the country club
Spring Valley is a multi-purpose neighborhood, with a country club, industrial park, undeveloped forests and a few subdivisions which pack in an impressive variety of homes. “You have some really expensive houses, but you also have more middle-end homes,” Ballard says. “You’ll find traditional ranch-style homes in the well-established parts of the neighborhood and French country homes by Heron Lakes.” Other houses near the country club show Colonial Revival and Spanish Mission architectural influences, though stateliness is a commonality among all. Sidewalks are also typical of all subdivisions, sometimes accompanied by mature pine or palm trees. Ranch-style and Colonial Revival homes on the west side of Spring Valley usually go for between $200,000 and $350,000, while homes near Heron Valley tend to sell between $400,000 and $700,000.

Golf, soccer and beaches
Heron Lakes Country Club is one of Spring Hill’s biggest draws, Ballard calling it probably one of the best country clubs in Mobile. This sprawling, semi-private club is in many residents’ back yards and about a 5-minute drive from most homes. Facilities include an 18-hole golf course, a driving range, an Olympic sized swimming pool, tennis courts and dining options. Athletes will rejoice that they’re right next to the Mobile County Soccer Complex, or MoCo SoCo as the locals call it. The local government has invested several million dollars in refurbishing the complex with the aim of constructing more soccer fields. Locals also aren’t far from Alabama’s beautiful coastline. “You can be on the white sand beaches of Dauphin Island within 30 minutes,” Ballard says.

The Arts and Mardi Gras
Downtown Mobile hosts an outdoor art walk the second Friday of each month along Dauphin Street. Visitors can check out pop-up art galleries, enjoy live music and support local vendors and artists.
