An established neighborhood in the middle of West Mobile
Terrace Hills is an established neighborhood, but not only in the sense that its ranch-style homes have been there for a while. So have their residents. “Terrace Hills a neighborhood where a lot of the original owners, or their kids, are still there,” says Bill Hinton, Associate Broker with Roberts Brothers who has been selling homes in Mobile for 36 years. “Nobody wants to move from there, is my guess.” With so many amenities near to homes, it’s easy to see why locals would want to stay. “As far as location goes, Terrace Hills is great,” Hinton says. “It’s right in the middle of West Mobile, and it’s affordable. It’s got everything close by. You’ve got all kinds of shopping, like Walmart and Publix, and you have easy access to Interstate 65.” Locals also have plenty of eating options along Cottage Hill Road, along with a green space in the geographic heart of their community.

Ranch-style homes and more
Contrary to its name, Terrace Hills isn’t all hilly. Streets and lots have a gentle incline in the north. But other subdivisions like Madison Place have more dynamic terrain. What all subdivisions tend to offer are manicured lawns and mature trees. Sidewalks can be found beside residential streets in the southwest side of the neighborhood. Homes on the north half of the neighborhood primarily follow ranch-style designs. In the south, homes are larger, and there’s a mix of Cape Cod, Colonial Revival and Greek Revival, alongside the usual ranch homes. Some show French country style and Victorian influence. “Many of the houses were built in the ‘50s, so it’s an established neighborhood: one of the oldest in the area,” Hinton says. Houses don’t enter the market often, he also notes. “If something does come up for sale, and it’s been updated, it starts around $150,000. Otherwise, it’s closer to $50,000,” Hinton says. Prices get up to just under $300,000, with most houses going for around the $200,000 mark.
