Desirable West Mobile suburb
Quiet without being too deep into the country and accessible without city noise, Travis attracts buyers to thriving West Mobile. Homebuyers have options, whether it's a ranch-style home on an acre with oak groves and fishing ponds or a stately New Traditional house with modern amenities and a backyard pool. Travis also offers access to popular, ever-expanding retail areas on this side of Mobile County. "People who live in this area of Mobile really like it, and I do too," says Summer Poole, a lifelong West Mobile resident and Digital Media Journalist with WKRG News 5. "It almost has a rural feel, but there's a ton of growth moving toward West Mobile. The county recently annexed more land in West Mobile and is continuously building out there."
Subdivisions and acreages in West Mobile
Suburban subdivisions span the northern half of Travis, while established homes on larger lots are found in the southern half. Homes in subdivisions like The Meadows, Saybrook and Oakbriar are typically more densely built, but backyards are still big enough for many owners to have pools and entertainment areas. Homes in the southern half of the neighborhood sit on woodsy acreages shaded with mature oaks. "The community has a fairly large range of price points," says Brooks Beck of Beck Properties, which has operated since 2021. "There are homes as low as $100,000, up to over half a million. So, the area attracts all kinds of buyers." Travis's established homes and the Meadows subdivision consist of Cape Cods and Neoclassical-inspired ranch-style homes, costing between $199,000 and $300,000. The Saybrook and Oakbriar subdivisions typically have larger New Traditional homes and Colonial or Craftsman-style-influenced bungalows, costing between $350,000 and $535,000.
